I can't do that I gotta ride!

So that made me think of another question, when you all buy bikes, are you looking for 'originalness' or 'modifiedness' ??

I want to know what people generally want because;

1. I want to improve and modify my bikes while I own them(have everytime so far).
2. I know I want to sell it for a 600 when I get a permanent job...since I only bought the 400 because i didn't have to go on finance on a temp job and could afford insurance better

So what about things like braided brake lines, adjustable levers(same color as oem levers, so people would have to get close to notice), perhaps make the braided lines black for same reason? make aftermarket front fender i want same color as oem? etc are these ideas good or bad? I see some people like adjustable levers gold etc...

i now buy mine as close to original as possible.
when i was younger i wanted to modify everything, and it took a few goes to discover that bolting on 2k's worth of after market junk doesnt actually make the bike worth 2k more and more likely to make it -1k less than original and that was a bitter pill to swallow.
if i was keeping a bike for ever then fair enough, but most dont and get the wake up call one day.

now i try and buy and keep the bike close to standard, works better on some bikes than others. and i am lucky enough to have a couple of bikes, and if Bike A is not fast enough, and i want to go faster then take bike B out instead of butchering bike A

I kept my old 06 plate CBR600RR totally standard where all others were modded with shit indicators, and bolt on crap, and when i came to sell it, it made more money by far than modded examples and i could have sold it 5 times over. infact it was probably the easiest bike i have ever sold to date.
Was also a crock of shit - but thats another story

but what about like what I said, mods that look original, because I'm pretty sure a braided brake line done in black that from far looks original is better than a 23yr old rubber one for example that by now im sure has some expansion under braking

I agree about personal mods though and I don't care about making money back so much, such as aftermarket exhausts some guy can get a double end exhaust and spend a fortune and it could sound great but if I bought the bike I'd replace it as I think double exhausts look crap :whistle:

i hear you, thing is a bike with only a few miles on the clock is more likely to appeal to a collector and he will want original over aftermarket.
I have to say though i actually prefer the feel of older brake lines. assuming your pads and calipers are in good order a bit of flex only improves feel and doesnt mean you have a face full of tarmac when someone pulls out on you and you go for a handfull of break in a panic.

I have had a look at the route 65 bike in the flesh and for such a low mileage bike there were quite a few scrapes on it from memory. Was in ok condition though otherwise from peering behind the fairing.

£3995, unfortunately the bike I want happens to be the 600RR...and I could get one with change for that price :?

REALLY REALLY hate insurance companies, £4000 is about what I'm quoted for 1000cc's(of all...1...of the companies that even give me a quote LOL) and I see some going for not much more than my NC23 sometimes :down: and even 1000RR's going cheaper than same year 600RR's same sort of condition and mileage... :(
