Rick O`s next project: NC30 gearbox upgrade...

Post by RickOliver »

I just want to assess the level of interest in this one -

I have in the pipeline an uprated countershaft 6th gear pinion to fit the NC30 gearbox - this is the component which causes high mileage/thrashed NCs to jump out of second gear when the engagement dogs wear and and comes apart in hand grenade style if subjected to big BHP figures for too long (Mike N has had this happen on his G-Force race bikes and my VFR5 did the same trick a couple of weeks ago).

The new gear will be a stronger construction and have modified dogs for more positive engagement. I have a couple of prototypes being made and if there`s any interest I will order a small batch early next year.

Any takers...?

Me too, though I'd be interested on cost before committing!

Ordering a batch would probably get the price down to £150 or thereabouts, which I don`t think is unreasonable given that the the self-destructing, no longer available Honda version had a list price of over £95...

If it was next spring or nearabouts when I'm due to get some money together and sort the bike I'd possibly be interested, depending on how much of a ball ache it would be to fit.

Quick answers to the last 3 posts -

1) Obviously you`ll have to split the crankcases and disassemble the gearbox countershaft to fit the new pinion.

2) They will be in heat treated EN36 steel.

3) No, the equivalent gear in the RVF box is a different part but there`s no reason I can`t get some of those made in due course.
