Early fzr600 3HE engine
Hi was planing on a 600 motor in my 3tj and have the perfect motor. Its a 95hp race engine with corrillo rods, tunned head and only one meeting since it was built.
Anyway was having a read up and I see that the early fzr600 engine doesnt fit the 3tj? Does anyone know if this is the case??

Well it will fit but it won't drop in as easily as the later 4JH engine.
The front mounts on a 3HE are down the bottom because the it was designed to have frame rails like the 1WG (the crankcases are common with the 1WG). To make it fit you'd need to fabricate some brackets to run from your 3TJ frame mounts or get a mount wleded onto the 3HE's head, hopefully missing the junction with the barrels.
I'd imagine the front sproket will need a spacer because of the wider rear tyre and rear sproket position.
A reasonable 4HE sould be up around the 95 bhp mark and an engine goes from about £100

Re: Early fzr600 3HE engine
there's a chap on here with a 1WG engine in a 3TJ frame (about the 5th post down page 4)
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=29890&start=30
which aint sposed to fit, but it does,
the only problem for you could be the barrels are taller on the 600 than the 400 and the 1WG sits higher in the frame to start with than the tj motor, so it might get a bit cramped under the tank, might be worth looking into though

Looking at it, that's not a bad idea. I don't think that's a very good example (no offense intended at all), but if you were to pick up both frame holes on either side and use a boomerang shaped plate to pick the engine mount up, that'd be stronger. It could open up a range of alternative spare engines for those who've blown their 3TJs upHogdigerdy Dog wrote:there's a chap on here with a 1WG engine in a 3TJ frame (about the 5th post down page 4)

My T'cat/Genesis has been Dyno'ed at 102bhp with just a race pipe on so that hp fiure seems low for a racy 3HE motor....Or my Dyno print out was a little bit optimistic
A T'cat motor would probably have a better spread of power and be more reliable too though?

Re: Early fzr600 3HE engine
Thanks for the links, but I won't be putting the 3he motor if it’s the wrong engine.
1wg motor in the tj looks bloody dangerous to me, there is good reason for a subframe when you have engine mounts that low down. The TJ looks like it uses the engine as a stressed part of the chassis like a GP bike and that's all lost with those mounts too. No-one likes a wobbly engine.
I don't think 95hp its low for a early bike, the main draw was that it was all fresh and was cheap.. Tcat is the way to go though

all the 600s are the wrong engineypm25 wrote:Thanks for the links, but I won't be putting the 3he motor if it’s the wrong engine.

but it's whatever your happy bolting in,
i recon kayla could be onto something with the aussie brackets as they'll support the weight of the engine the same as the tj does albeit with an extended bracket
but given the choice i'd fit the T- Cat engine,
much newer and with less miles than the earlier 600s and with a strengthened crank compared with the earlier models
down side much more dosh and some electrics to sort out
