FZR 400 4DX CRANK/ROD BEARINGS
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows if the 1WG crank /and rod shells they fit on the FZR 400 4DX too. I know that pistons are not the same for 1WG and 3TJ/4DX but I am wondering about the bottom end.
Regards,
PS: Anyone has the part number catalog for the 4DX? I am googling 4DX and I am getting almost nothing, very scattered info for this model.

1wg crank will fit but it is much heavier! Any parts you want engine wise for your 4dx will have 3tj part numbers.
I have complete parts catalogues for the RR and RRSP, if you need any part numbers let me know. Dont forget you must match the big end and main bearings to the engine cases and conrod combination, there are several different bearing sizes.
If you need any specific work or even a 1wg crank reducing to the same spec as a 3tj one speak to Leo Aldersley at NM tuning. Dont jusy pic his brains for info, but if you need anywork doing he is THE man.

You need to plasti gauge the crank / cases to find the right shell thickness. It`s not so difficult but you need to know what your doing. If your going to strip it that far down it might be worth having the oil ways opened up as well.

Yes i use plastigauge on R1s all the time, for modified cranks that have their crank/rod bearing numbers erased. But here I thought numbers on the FZR 400 crank casing and on the crank itself are enough to choose the right bearing sizes. In general Yamaha is very good on these and tbh whatever stock yamaha engines I have build IEvilchicken0 wrote:You need to plasti gauge the crank / cases to find the right shell thickness. used the yamaha color codes. Is there is any reason for not doing it for the FZR400?

Man thanks for this, can i have the RR and RRSP catalogs if you have the pdf's? I dont really need any work done i have my own ppl for cranks, but I already have a 1WG and now a 4DX. I would like to see if I can find and fit some RRSP forks on the 4DX as I already fitted an R6 rear shock with the mods needed.KIYOSHI wrote:1wg crank will fit but it is much heavier! Another thing i dont know is if 1WG headgaskets fits on 3TJ/4DX?

I dont have the parts manuals on pdf, they are genuine yamaha manuals so anything you need let me know and i will sort you the numbers.
As for the bearing coulours/sizes you are more than safe to trust the yamaha sizing system alsthou dont forget the codes on the back of the crank case are upside down!!!
As for the RRSP forks, i did get your PM and i will see if i have enough parts to build another set when i go in the garage Sunday, yhe spare set i had built up sold instantly!
Dont use the 1wg crank in the 4dx/3tj, its f@cking heavy and kills the revs! Hold out and find a 3tj one or get yours repaired.
And as Evil said if you have the cases split get the oil feed modified, you can do this yourself or send the cases to Leo Aldersley, Pm me if you need anymore info.

Why the oil ways need modifications? I remember reading something long time ago in BDK's website maybe I should revisite the site. Check your pms. Ta,
PS: I have a 4DX crank to put on i believe its the same as RRSP 3TJx.

The cases are moulded from the same as the 600 so the oilways are large enough for that engine. On some of the race bikes there's an oil starvation on the big ends so you can open them to the 600 spec to avoid it.

OK Thanks for that. Apparently you can do the oil mode yourself thats what James from BDK said and also what Rob Bunyan emailed me.Evilchicken0 wrote:The cases are moulded from the same as the 600 so the oilways are large enough for that engine. An update on the shells: Yamaha has superceded the 1WG crank shells with YZF 600 part numbers aka 4TV.
Unfortunately it has also change the thickness of the shells and from 0.043mm maximum crank to case clearence (on the FZR400 Service manual both 1WG/3TJ) are now showing (with plastigauge) 0.063mm! That is using std colorcodes. Hence the color codes are useless. This is not the first time i have seen that with Yamaha eg look here
http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showpost ... ount=19384
Now I dont know what crank clearence the YZF 600 runs but seems to me with the current thickness of 4TVs shells one has to go for the thickest possible ones to achive the desired 0.043m
