PISSED OFF - Dented my Tank - Help required.

Post by biga1 »

Hi All

After losing my balance I let my bike hit the corner of a wall - Gutted.

Images here - http://imgur.com/a/Ta5uV#de0OH

I now have a fairly decent dent into the tank on the RHS dead centre of the tank "honda" decals.

I have found a PDR company local to me who said it would be about £100 - Does this sound reasonable and if so is the result going be good enough - If anyone has experiences of PDR.

Secondly even if the dent gets sorted I still have the issue of ruined decals and some scratching to the paint work - Can i get the decals ? as they seem to be lacquered into the paintwork some how rather than stuck on ? and what about the scratches to the paint work across the colours ?

Help needed - Really want my NC30 to look as good as possible without paying the earth !

Thanks

AL

Its going to need painting if you want it to look perfect, if fact id be surprised if they got that dent out without leaving a crease somewhere. Depending on how good the paint still is you might get away with just repainting the affected area.

New decals are available although you better order it now as its most likey to come from japan.

Is that a UK spec bike ? assuming it is (looking at the decals) then if the bikes in excellent original condition then a new genuine tank is the only acceptable way i would personaly be happy with.
some excellent repairs and paint jobs, but you always know its a paint job, and its never perfect no matter howw they promise it.
i know 90% of people would be happy with a "best effort" but 10% would want it as it should be, esp if the bikes standard and a good examplee too.

the last RWB NOS tank i bought was in 05 and it was around £450 from silvers. so even if still available i bet they will be another £150 more i bet.

yep its the UK model and its in top notch condition needs a few things doing but not much. I agree I would really only want a new genuine tank - But silvers dont do them and dont think anywhere does ?? 100% or nothing its got to be

you need to find someone with a NOS tucked away in his loft then ;-)
Seriously, i would be looking at buying a spare tank as rot free as possible and getting it painted as best as you can, or buy a nice jap machine, swop tanks and sell the bike on. its only the decals that are different so i wouldnt be so precious on a genuine UK one.

Yeah think im gonna look for a spare tank and try get it painted - But you always know its not the real mccoy :(. What is the deal with the UK decals - the gold edge-ing ? The decal looks like its lacquered into the tank rather than stuck do you about how that look is achieved ?

no its the same on my RC30, i just think the decals are a tad thinner than the aftermarket ones and coupled with years of being polished and wear.
aftermarket decals i wouldnt be concerned about. more the tank and paint.

had the tank on my uk bike painted using the champagne/gold ? coachlines supplied by vinylmark they may not satisfy the purists but they are about as close as your going to get . the painter commented that they were a very good match and that he had previously painted in the coachlines in this colour scheme as he had been unable to obtain them.
