what a monumental occasion. rite saw a cdi unit on e bay so brought it from a guy that trades under' kernow salvage' who was a really decent guy and has lots of classic bike bits for sale. cannot rate him highyly enough. Anyway plugged the new (25year old) cdi unit in and hey presto the bike was fixed, revved it straight up and hit the red line for the first time since ownership! couldnt believe it!!. thanks for all the advice guys. gonna upload pics and document future restoration/conversion asap. only thing that is not quite right is that the bike idles high at about 3000/4000 revs and fluctuates between that and normal idle? also when riding it seems a little bit juddery at low revs in most gears? does anybody have any ideas on this? once this is fixed the bike is finally going to be a 100% mechanically sound and limit my chances of dying early from all the stress! Thanks

your jet needle could be bored. take a good look @ the needle. could be running rich for reasons. my plugs fouled every 3months! leaving me with only 3cylinders... ;)

hi ben,
cheers its funny you say that, i have just taken the bike today to this expert and thats exactly a possibility what he said, as a worse case scenario, that they can suffer from play around the needle and this then bores the needle hole out allowing to much fuel into the engine etc. How did you overcome this? hopefully it will just need a light tune up as carb has been out a few times lately.
Once its fixed im going to sell the bike anyway for a gk76a im just not feeling the look of the slabby.
