Bought this last week as a work horse for £500 with long MOT and TAX. Its a 1987 on the logbook. Is this just the Genesis model then not the exup, Whats the difference??
Whats the model code for it 2tk or the earlier one?? As you can tell im new to these bikes not had a bike on the road for over 5 years, Im loving it to be back ;-)

It's a 1WG, which was the first FZR400 (the FZ400 pre-dated it).

FZR400 model line up here.

Yup a Genesis model, they're nice bikes withn IL4 engine. The later 2TK was a sport production (SP) model with an exup valve in the exhaust that alters the o/a exhaust size, back pressure and therefore a bit of torque. That allowed Yamaha to tune the top end. After that came the 3EN1 & 2 which were the road bikes. Later still was a complete redesign with the 3TJ.

Thanks... It pulls well, im happy with it. Always loved look of the old FZR's.
Was thinking about turning it into a street fighter but now kinda going off the idea The fairings not in as bad condition as i thought. I will keep my eye out for a new ride hand side fairing tho. Its got slight bit missing. The rest is fine.

Gonna have a flick thru this section and learn some more. Havent got any issues with it as of yet so lets hope it stays that way lol.

Thanks again.

You should be able to mend the fairing with some plastex

Measure the brake caliper bolt spacings I think they're 83-85mm in which case 3TJ 4 pot calipers will fit.

yep the 3tj calipers fit, got em on mine....

improves the front brake x10 get some braided lines aswell as if you've still got the origionals on there they are over 20 years old, you'll really notice the difference, I know I did.

good luck with her. any Q's just ask I'll help where I can..
