timng chain removal

dont know how to do this do i need a special tool? or can i get away with a rough and ready solution.
theres no split link visible so i guess i have to split it, but i dont know what tool i would need.

any ideas please...

They are endless so you should take the crank out. Some shops do a ride in/out change so i assume they brake the chain and then rerivit a new one but 99% of cam chains for sale are endless.

took it into workshop to get done, as i didnt have a clue, and also need the alternator? and other side pulled off the crank. [£45.00] but now the world is my mollusc, as they say in discworld, so hopefully will be able to get it all off and start the refit this weekend.

depending in the state of the barrels, should i fit new rings if ok anyway ? or get it honed.

If it ran ok before you took it apart ie no smoke then carefully re-use the rings. (leave them on the pistons so they stay the right way around)
New ones are about £50 per piston + vat x 4 + gaskets @ about £80+ !!!! .

pistons and barrels look ok, nice and shiny still, no discernable marks or scoring, making slow progress as i normally screw things up by rushing.

started taking casin bolts out and had to take one camshaft off to remove head etc.
when i turned ot on its side there was a little 1" pin sitting on the bench, so thatll be fun figureing out where it goes lol.

Always best to take it slowly and double check stuff, that old thing of measure twice cut once! lol
