http://s403.photobucket.com/albums/pp11 ... 4%20build/ looking on his photobucket account its not been finished.

He has a pic of a NC30 with a supercharger on it, but nothing on a NC24 being finished.

Am I being daft or... if you re-drilled the shock and shortened the bottom like in the original, this would fit, wouldn't it?

So why not do that? You won't lift the back like you want but at least you can put the bike back together with a decent modern shock in it.

your not being daft, but re-drilling it is not really that sensible considering the clearences. The hole would be very near the solid block at the bottom with an adjuster screw in there and the bottom of the hole would be very thin to the exsisting hole (i would then need to cut that bottom off to allow clearence)

If the person that did the mod comes on and says its drillable and it safe and has pics to prove it, ill do it. But an engineer said it looked unsafe to re-drill it further up.

Fair enough. I might be tempted to do it anyway, myself. The loading on the shock is almost all going the other way.

Other than that then it basically looks like it's not going to fit, not with the exhaust on. Perhaps you could execute some hammer-surgery on the exhaust??

Hammer surgury is not possible to the collector box/link pipe join as you would never get the exhaust off if you needed to drop the engine out. Also the collector boxes are very rare to get hold of now a days should i accidentally hit it too hard.

I will try and accurately measure and see how much i can drill on this shock if at all, I just want to make sure if i did drill it, I wasn't causing the shock to become weakened due to less material to support the bottom bolt (i know the loading is going to be on the top of the bolt more. But if a crack in the bottom did occur and going over a bump made the bike bounce and the crack to open fully it could drop the back end down and cause a crash. But for the moment i have put the bike in the corner out the way so i can continue head scratching.

If anyone in the mean time has any other suggestions, or knows Der-Kire or anyone else thats done the modification and can supply more photos, then please ask them to kindly do so as i really want to get back on the bike as soon as possible.

rich get it ally welded first file it flat then drill a new hole. problem solved/sorted.

just like the 35mm rear end raise mod to the NC30 dog/wish bone you have to have the old hole welded first.

Ahh yeah that is probably the solution and even it if dont work, get it re welded and redrilled in same place and sell it on.

Wonder whether my brothers welder can be changed over to weld ali or i need to find a company to do it for me.

EDIT: I knew a possible solution would come eventually

Just looked at the shock and i dont think that will be the cure as if i raise the screw up the L shaped link arm will hit the bottom of the shock (there is a large aluminum block at the bottom of the shock)
