NC24 600RR shock mod help needed

Post by chownsy »

Okay.

I have used this topic viewtopic.php?f=24&t=7643 to fit the 2004 CBR600RR shock to my bike.

It wouldnt fit straight away so had to drop the engine out to get it to fit as it was hitting the exhaust.

I have yet to re-install the enigne so im not sure if the exhaust is going to catch still or not but the problem im currently facing is fitting the rear subframe.

Where do you put the battery and all the associated articles? As the shock gas cylinder takes up that space.

could someone who has done the mod tho their NC24 show me pictures of how it all fits please.

Urgently need help on this now.

I dont like to pester people but im in the situation where im needing to get my bike on the road asap.

I dropped the engine out, got the mods done to the shock mounts as the guide said to do so (never re-drilled it 1cm further up for lowering as i wanted to raise my seat height more as im 5ft 8.

I then did the modifications to the rear undertray/mud guard/battery mount and got it to fit around the shock and started to make the mounting bracket for the battery.

Now ive come to refit the engine and the exhaust, once again is hitting the bottom of the new shock. I had thought that putting the shock on the bike and compressing it would settle it down to allow fitment of the engine back in place.

If anyone has done this modification to their NC24 please can you post pictures and tell me how you managed to get it to fit.

Pleaseeeeee

Not to sound condescending but if other people have used the same shock (there is at least 3 I know of) then you must have done something wrong.

Please put up some pictures so people can see where you are at the moment.

What part of the exhaust is hitting the shock? I'm having trouble visualising this, perhaps the link pipe?

I will have photos for you in 10 minutes.

Currently refitted the old shock to see if i had made a mistake.

I will then show you pics of step by step of how im fitting it in a hope you can see my error.

I know it will fit from reading that fitting guide, but for me its not fitting for some reason :(

Regards

This is the 2 shocks side by side, you can see the size difference in the length of the shocks.

Image

If i fit the shock in to the space where it shoud fit, it hits the exhaust collector box exit

Image

It then wont allow you to get the top bolt in place.

Image

After a bit of wiggling and moving the rear swing arm up and down, you can get the top bolt in place

Image

But then the bottom is about 10mm - 15mm in where the link pipe should fit and you cannot get the L shaped mount to fit into the

Image

Ive done the grinding on the link arm to allow the shock to fit, but when this is all in place and mounted correctly (the engine was out at this time, i could not fit the engine in place, even by compressing the suspension down with a ratchet strap)

Your grinding doesnt look like the original mod.

He cut a long hollow hole the length of that tube so that you can slide the whole bottom of the shock inside it.

Image

If you look at this image of the lower shock mount you can see the big hole in the tube that will allow you to slide the shock absorber inside it which will level it up...?

The whole shock could slide into the arm on mine, Ive just sprayed it (none of the paint was scraped off by the shock at all)

If you look at this pic Image he has no exhaust on the engine

and if you look at this pic

http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp11 ... arance.jpg

you can see the arm you said i aint ground enough out of at a downward angle of about 30 degrees, this is what happened on my bike.

The seat height was raised significantly, I used to be able to sit on the seat and feet flat on floor. With new shock im on tip toes (im 5ft 8)

rich, that hole youve ground out, id be keen to wrap some black insulation tape around it before you refit aswell you dont want fine dust getting in there, those needle bearings wont last long, and they are about £15 each to replace.

as mart said, it doesnt look the same as the other guys mod, but more to the point i notice you pointed out hes fitted uit without an exhaust. i wonder why?

Once this is all fitted i would have sealed that hole up. I was hoping to grind just down to the finest bit of metal but i went a fraction too far :(

Anyway as you and i noticed the exhaust aint fitted.

If only the guy was still on the forums regulary we could get him to post pics of it more clearly and with the exhaust mounted.

No exhaust on it at the time as the bike was in the middle of a full-rebuild.. there were some pictures of it kicking aroud in a more finished form.
