Can't change down the box ?
Howdy guys :D
Well took me GSX-R 400RR SP2 (GK73 A) for its first spin yesterday and it was mint :D had it off the clock in 4th gear (clock is 111mph) :D well impressed, but then all of a sudden I found it hard to go down the box
so while I was cruizin down this long road I pulled the clutch in and held it in to see if the revs would drop to tickover as it should but it didnt it stayed around 4,000rpm
It got increasingly difficult to change down the gears, goin up was ok though.
I got the bike home and it stalled on my drive, I switched engine off, put bike in first and pulled clutch in and tried to push it up me drive in gear with clutch in and it wasnt goin anywhere.
Does anyone have a take on whats happened please ? I have a non runner now again, I only had a 15 min run on it first go and now this.
Thanks in advance.
Matt :)

Re: Can't change down the box ?
It's a clutch problam so first check the cable has'nt come lose or streched
then move on to the clutch itself
then move on to the clutch itself

Re: Can't change down the box ?
I checked the cable all seams fine, and I thought that if the clutch went it would slip not make it impossible to change down a gear, mind you moments before this I had redlined in 3rd and bike was off the clock in 4th
So do you think clutch plates might sort this ? I got a feeling there could be a clutch bearing or something that could have broke / seized ?
Anyone know first place I should be lookin ?
Cheers.
Matt :D

Re: Can't change down the box ?
Cap'n .... Am goin in

More pics, still not sure if am any closer to finding out whats wrong check these :

I have just measured the thickness of the little squares on the clutch plates and they seam to be 0.8mm of plate on each individual one.
Also confusing is there is 6 normal plates, 1 plate is larger and 1 smaller, so I am not sure how this goes back together even when I get a new set lol.
Can anyone spot a problem why I cant change down the gears from these pics please ?
Cheers.

thin one to the back over the two metal spring washers, then metal (and the metals have a machined side and a rounded side look at the teeth and make sure they all the go the same direction)then 1 of the 7 fibers then metal etc... then ending with fiber...make sure basket nut torgued to 500-700 kg/cm

Re: Can't change down the box ?
boy that is odd
Those are the spring washers they go in like this )( then the fiber over them the thin one ... where is your washer that flips over the nut the washer there looks like one that is to be behind the basket...

Thanks for that racer :)
The locking nut washer is there I just bent it flat behind the gold nut there.
I am sure when I pulled the sping washes out they was like this ) ) and not ) ( but i'll be sure to put em the correct way when I put the new clutch plates in :)
Cheers.
