FZR Model Differences

Post by SHimmer45 »

been looking at getting a 400 again after my main bike got punted  and i been looking on ebay at various 400's and it seems that the FZR appears to be a bit cheaper than say a Honda 400.
i also noticed that there is alot of variants,
any shed any light on this, as to which would be worth getting with a budget of around £800.00
quite like the look of the 3TJ but that might be outta my budget range??

are spares a problem? i live 5 mins from a Yam main dealer which is handy

Ah so you've sussed it then :o

The 3TJ will be within budget and it's every bit as good as the honda ... and then a little more. The only spares you should worry about are the downpipes because they have an exup (exhaust valve) in so you can't get aftermarket pipes. Suspension is probably on the way out but there's an R6 shock conversion. Engines need the valve shims checked every 10,000 so it's good if they've been done and about £300 garage price if not (cheaper with a tame mechanic). Tanks, top fairings and front wheels are a bit more difficult as racers tend to want them. Brake calipers need to be clean and the disks in reasonable condiion, then fit up some HH pads and braided lines and they stop very well. Carbs need to be clean and batteries in good condition and you'll have a great bike.

You should get a reasonable one for your money - if your near London come and have a look at mine to get an idea.

so the main differences between say a 1WG 3EN & TJ are mainly cosmetic ish and slight updates to the brakes and the like..

im in Southampton so its not that close to london but i do go to Boxhill sometime's.

seeing pics of your 3TJ and the EN made me go "they look nice wonder what sorta money they go for" hence some of the research.

God No ... the 3TJ is a comprehensive redesign of the 1WG. They handle well too and like I say easily the equal of many bikes, it's just this forum is mainly honda so they don't want to hear any different brand name especially when they're cheaper.

Let me know when your coming up this way

The 3tj have shorter barrells and piston skirts and gives better compression ration on drive....

Also much easier too work on for the japs built the 3tj as a race bike and engine that can be stripped and rebuilt in a matter of hours rather than the 1wg models...
