RS 250 shock, strange problem

Post by Drunkn Munky »

Just got myself another RS250 shock to go on my trackbike, trouble is i have one on my road bike and the new shock i have has a extra plastic or nylon ring around the shock, in the pic its the black ring about 20mm thick just below the c spanner adjusters,

The shock i already have on my road bike doesnt have this and has been working fine its just if its meant to be there then theres a reason for it and i'll get one for the road bike too

that spring that came with it might be too short and so the person knocked up a spacer to go for more preload?

My shock does not have the extra spacer...so get that spring checked out for length and weight and see if you can junk it and get a proper spring for it.

That spacer is actually an electrical cover plate from a 1990 Renault 5 GT turbo raider :geek:

I was on the verge of buying a nitron till this turned up, my last one cost me around £150 to have it resprung, revalved and rebuilt plus the initial charge of £50 for the shock so for what im gunna be using it for it'll do me fine. Leaves me more money for trackdays ;)

I'm on the look out for an rs250 shock for my road bike.

It's a good upgrade for the price.

i am just gonna invade your topic here :) .

thinking about the rs250 shock mod as a cheaper alternative for my track nc30.

what year rs shock is it that is suitable? and what mods you need to make to get it on the bike?

cheers

I think a lot of info was lost on the old forum as even after searching everything still wasnt that clear, in short this is what i did to the shock on my road bike to get it to fit,

Widen the bottom mounting fork to fit the RVF linkage
Reshape the top of the rs shock to fit the RVF top mount
Bolt it in, job done

Before fitting i also had the shock rebuilt, regased and resprung to suit me. Not sure if its the same for VFR but im sure someone will say if its not.
