GSF400 Ignitor Repair

Post by maderdog_1024 »

Here is my Ignitor, its after market and the symptoms are not the same as the faults on the bandit alley DIY Ignitor Repair Topic.

You can see in the image,
RIGHT Pulse signal wires to LT side of coils
Middle The orange +12v and the black ground.
LEFT brown and black with white trace is the input from the pickup.

The two squares with holes are the underside of the heatsinks on the voltage regulators.

The problem I have is that when the unit is connected to the bike the 12v feed drops to 3v.

Any electrical gurus out there ??

Mike

So far I have replaced 3 of the ceramic 104 capacitors and the fixed voltage regulator.

Still dragging the voltage down to 3v.

Hey Mike what make is the box? the caps go bad on the stock ones so very different to yours. Are we 100% that its the box and not a bad loom, if the box is out can 12v be tested at various places and be seen to drop when the box is reconnected.

Not sure of the brand but it has a sticker saying "North West Motorcycle Services" on the back.
Its a programmable igniter unit.
I have taken it out of the bike and i plugged in a DIY 12v supply, its working fine.

Its the bloody bike wiring !

Has a healthy 13.4v no load, then just dies on load.

Its a continuous feed from ignition switch so i guess that could be culprit !

This thing is out to wind me up !

Ran today perfectly for about 10 minutes then cut out.

Now have no spark again.
