If you take an ohm meter and measure the wires you will find that between the cdi side and ground you get a reading (usually 1.5k ohm). If you take areading between the sensor wire and ground for each gear you will get different resistances. The M max usually have a reading of around the second gear reading and you can make your own by using reistors the same as first or second gear etc that may/will give different advance curvers.
Never tried this on a dyno but usually make one using a 1.5K ohm resistor and get good results.
Hey Chris,
My M MAX box has two extra wires as well as the usual two plugs...any idea`s?

Is that fitted to your bike? and is it a SP? The ones ive seen before have less wires (three). I have a similar looking one made by Daytona that plugs into the tps on my Bandit VVC, wonder if stripes has seen anything similar.

I picked it up off e-bay last week so not fitted to the bike yet. Mine is not the SP version so no tps....
I thought maybe the two extra wires connected to the gps and the plugs into the cdi? I will have a better look at the instructions later and see if i can get them changed into english, wish me luck i think i`m going to need it!
