Master cylinder rebuild tool??

Post by castrol101 »

The internal circlip that holds the master cylinder piston in is causing me some trouble. I bought a pair of internal circlip pliers from halfords but they are too big. I've ordered some more which i can only hope fit, but they're taking a while to arrive.

Are there any other ways to get it out? A makeshift tool of sorts... I'm a little bit desperate to get the job done as I'm moving house this week and need to ride a good 200 miles. A terrifying prospect with no front brakes

Cheers

If yuo buy or have one of those very cheap small "jewellers" screwdriver sets you may be able to get the end of one in the circlip hole and ease it out. I've done this before when desperate.

I've taken out internal circlips with needle nose pliers before too.

Cant you grind the tips down to fit?

Is the cylinder piston rod in the way, I assume you are pushing it into the cylinder first.

See my post in the general section, I just did the master and it was a little difficult to get the C-clip out even with C-clip pliers. If you are going to buy a set of C-clip pliers I would recommend spending the money to get a good set. Mine are cheap and flimsy and the prongs would twist instead of staying straight.
