nc30 hybrid Q

ive been wanting to get rid of my nc30 for a while now lads, hate to say it, but im wanting somethin more powerfull. ive pretty much done everything to it but want more. the only thing thats made me keep it is a few of you guys on here talking about experimenting with putting bigger engines into the nc30. this would interest me into keeping the bike if it can be done. anything happened on this?

Track days, race days, or roadbike? Unless you go for a big bore you might be best off to get a bigger bike.

What have you done and what do you want? At the end of the day it's a 400cc bike, you can only screw so much power out of it.

I've seen sv650 engines fitted to the frame, they won't give much more power than a well tuned nc30 engine but will give more torque. Personally, I would be looking to fit a TL1000s engine (not sure if it fits) or similar, but at the end of the day the conversion will cost more than a more powerful bike.

Have you taken it to the track? Regardless of outright power, a well ridden & tuned 400 might satisfy you when up against many larger bikes.

Do you want to be able to ride faster or just want a faster bike?

Personally, I think these bikes are great, but there are better road bikes out there (e.g. more powerful, more comfortable, more ugly, better range, etc). On the track though, nc's are nearly unbeatable for value and kicks when you're in 'the zone'.... Please don't tell me you've never taken it to the track! If that's the case you should just buy a bandit 600 and be proud to be a biker.

Power is over rated..yes..it gets boring on the motorway at 11k revs trying to ride places. The 400 is not ever going to win any drag races but when you get it sorted and on the track it is the shit. Not going to wank on about crotch rockets..lol or that it will run rings around other bikes..

What it will do is allow you to learn about conservation of momentum, the ability to take a corner well and plan ahead as you do not have the power to just squirt out of it. I have a zx7r..it is crap. All it does wlel is go really fast when i commute to work.. I am sure I coul go fast on the track too but it does not handle, at all, compared to my NC30s. I lapped the nurburging a few years ago (before I started racing) on my NC30 and it was great. filmed it and was 9m47. I tok the 7r this year and was over 11m...so..although it has power and speed to spare it is, in my opinon, nowhere near as good a bike as my NC30 is.

If all you do is road riding/commuting then all you need as a shitty SV or honky fazer - they are both "faster" than an NC and have more power... Saying that, how much more power are you wanting? Some? Lots? It all becomes very normal very quickly (although I have not riden an 180bhp moto) so you might have an R1 but how often are you going to use the 150bhp.....

I have an SP1 if you want to buy it!
It does handle very well, no getting away from that, but it's not as 'flickable' as my old NC30. Yes, it is fast, probably a little too fast for my liking really. What I mean is, it's happiest at around 90mph*(4/5th) (and it still has another gear to go.)

*Speed posted following track day testing and not used on the public roads at those speeds. (That should cover it)

yup, awesome replies lads, thanks. think your right about how i use it cos all i usually do is commute on it and have never done a track day. sp1/2 is my dream machine but its gonna be a few years b4 i can afford that.

do a trackday youll love the bike again, especially when you overtake bigger bikes into corners, i must amit i got bit bored of my nc30 around town commuting etc. but i found when u get a twisty road with nno traffic or a track day they are the tits, i also wouldnt mind abit more power but i dont think theres much that looks as good or sounds or handles as a nc30 does apart from probly a rc30 rc45 or rsv4 but then your lookin £10k +
keep it and get a bigger bike, thats what most people seem to do, id like to bum im skint.

Look at the lap times for 400's raced at your local track and if you can get within 10% then by all means change.
Where is the skill in going fast in straight line.
You can outbrake and out corner most other bikes. Now that feels good I can tell you.
My bike is worth feck all if I sold it but I have spent 1000 on it to make it how i like it. that's about the cost of new bodywork if you bin an RR at Druids.

Like many others on here i think im NC for life, ive had and still do own bigger faster bikes but only ride em when i have to. A good NC is a great bike to ride on road and track, mine wont take a back seat until a RC45 turns up
