'HRC" Air Scoop

Post by RVFJE »

I bought one of these awhile back. It's supposed to be a CF copy of the HRC item which is only of any use in helping to cool the carbs by bringing fresh air in over the lower triple clamp and up under the carbs.
Now after finally fitting it I just realised that you can neither balance the carbs nor adjust the mixture screws with this thing installed.
What a waste of time and money.
Anybody else got one of these?

Just balance the carbs and adjust everything before you fit the tray.

The addition of a HRC tray should not affect the carb balancing. I know it can be a pain to keep fitting and removing the carbs, but this is the only way I am afraid.

thanks - I now realise that but for the little advantage you may get it's hardly worth the hassle is it?

The scoop was designed to be used with no airbox or filter, and so pulls in much more air to the intake.

When using it with an airbox, the only benefit you'll get is to cool the carbs (negligable whether it does this IMO).

I didn't realise that at first. The pictures I had seen on the old site showed it with filter and airbox. So I guess I just have to accept this fact ( inability to adjust carbs)or junk it.
I hate taking those things off (easy) and putting them back on (always a problem even with silicon spray on the inlet rubbers).

That carb (HRC setup) mod looks specific to NC30. I have NC35 - is it the same?

The NC35 HRC set-up is different (and easier to get the parts). The full kit NC35 set-up uses an HRC tray and HRC lid. Most racers don't use the whole kit though and just run the tray. The crab bracket and belmouth set-up is different too - 4 x small HRC bellmouths (or get another couple of standard short ones), plus all the carb internals etc.

Cool the carbs? Wtf?

Carburettors are notorious for freezing, why would you want to cool the carburettors I ask.

Carbns on a V4 get bloody hot rather than pershed out in the breeze like an Iline 4..and hey...if HRC decided they wanted one..then so do we!
