Let there be light! Clock Backlights

Post by Lope »

I always thought my NC24 had no clock backlights. For the first time ever they (that I've seen) they came on earlier today in a underground parking lot. Awesome backlights on all the clocks.
They're probably off again.
Anyone know what colour wire powers the clock lights?

I've got an NC24.

According to the NC30 Wiring diagram
The wire that powers it is Purple with White stripe and a Solid Green ground wire.
The Purple with White wire also seems to power the 'Position lights', 'Coolant gauge light', 'Number Plate light'
Whats a position light? (its not the neutral indicator)
Maybe the 'position lights' are 'parking lamps'?
My parking lamps also don't seem to work.
Maybe I should open up the light switch and see if it needs a service...?
(I've got a feeling its the switch)

The horn switch on the other side was pretty knackered and I serviced it a few months ago.

Pull the nose cone off and look behind the clocks, all the lamps push in the back supported by rubber grommets.

Stop using the NC30 wiring diagram :P

Don't you have the NC24 diagram?

Position lamps are parking / side lights, these are part of the indicators on the NC24.

The clock bulbs are on the same circuit as the lights, they should come on when you switch the lights on.. there on rubber grommets like old painless said.

If there not working / working intermittently you probably have duff / loose bulbs.. pull them out and have a check.. theres about 7 in total, some are different sizes too!

There all spec'd in the NC24 wiring diagram of which is which :)

The little bulb holders can be very fussy to get proper contact because they're flexible.

If more than 1 bulb is playing up at the same time then you'll need to look at the common wiring between them (all will generally run off the same earth [green wires] at some point in the loom).

Neo: NC24 wiring diagram has no colours :) and its all Japo.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm fairly certain its the switch or a loose wire because nothing that runs on the parking lamp wiring works.

The NC30 has a different loom though! :)

I'm sure the wiring diagram has colors on it... they might be in Japanese though, I can't remember. I'll have a look later.

Do you indicators not light up when you put the sidelights on? Many people disable this as it can cause confusion if people arn't used to it. You can check the indicators wiring as they have 3 wires... the orange / blue wires with the white stripe are for the sidelights.. if they are connected they shuold have 12v in them when you put the sidelights on ( you can check this by meauring the voltage in the bulb holder)
