quietning gears removal advice

just wondering if anyones got any advice or tips on removing the quietning gears on my nc30, some pics of what it looks like removed, also the pros and cons of doing it.

i was converting to track bike, but ithink im gonna use it on the road now and then. mainly track

I did mine about 1 month ago. not sure how much of a difference it has made to teh engine cos i did quite a few changes at the same time. If you have a bit of mechanical knowladge it's not to difficult to do. Not sure how easy it is to get them out with the engine in the frame (mine was on the garage floor, so had loads of room to see what i was doing.
I am sure someone will be along with pics, but i will see if i can find some of mine.

the engine is out on the workbench, replacing gears as it was jumping out gear, im hoping to do it while i rebuild the engine

If you have a look at viper bikers sticky on valve clearance at the top of the v4 workshop and look at pic 3, you can see the gears on the cams. you have to take the cams out of the holders, and remove the narrower gear on the left.

It isn't hard at all.

If your keeping it as a road bike i'd leave them in.

You may gain .5bhp from doing the mod.

However, it'll sound rough at idle, if you ever come to sell the bike you may struggle to convince potential buyers that it's supposed to sound like that.

For a tuned up race bike when ever .5hp counts i'd say do it!

Or if you have a CBR250RR i'd say do it too :)

Yes it does sound a little like you have left a spanner in the engine
Not sure if NC30 ones are the same as NC35 but on the 35 it's just a very big circlip holding the gear on, and that can be a bit*h to get off, but i didn't need to drill them.

They're just held in with a circlip Neo, the cbr cam gears are riveted on.

It's a straight forward job when you have the cams out.

CBR has rivited on gears.. I always get them mixed up :)
