valve checks/timing

Post by cruicent »

Hi,
Right, its all going back together slowely. I think Ive set the timing right, the outside pistons are at tdc, exhaust camshaft line pointing forwards, intake line pointing backwards/8oclock or half 8 ish. 20 pins between 2 on the exhaust side, 3 on the intake. (Although it was 18 originaly? All good so far?

No piccies of the 20 rivet bits on the camchain as camera died before it uploaded and cant find the battery charger!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Checking all the valve clearances.

Exhaust
"20" "20" "25" "25" | -25- -25- -20- -20-

"20" "20" -20- -20- | "20" "15" -15- -15-
Intake

key:
'num' = when outside pistons at tdc
-num- = when middle pistons at tdc

Hopefully that sortof makes it clear what readings I got, took as many readings as possible while in its original setting (most on the right hand side), then rotated 360deg and took readings for the rest (most on the left). Middle lower right two and middle lower left two are odd ones out though, all the other numbers on the right were taken while in original setting. Whereas all the numbers on the left were taken after 360deg rotation, bar the middle lower left ones which had to be taken while at original timing setting.
This seems completely wrong to me though lol.
Have I done anything wrong (or maybe right :) )
Cheers,

Lol, no probs. Although I have a feeling that its not at tdc...will have to adjust tomorrow with a pencil down the cylinder method. :)
Noticed a small line on the edge left hand side of the casing. Is this the mark to line up the arrow for the piston timing? Looks a little high though but strange it doesnt have any other marks to line them up.

hi Mate,
The first picture looks like your low, should get the arrow on the trigger to line up with the little mark on the front of the engine case.

Yeah I realised that on the last post. Wasnt sure if that was the mark or not.
EDIT: lines lined up!
And broke a bleeding screw!
Any one know where to get one of the bolts that attach the crank shaft covers on? The longer one with the thick wire bit connecting both sides....
