NC30 rear wheel balancing

I have just bought some new tyres for my NC30 and need to know the best method for balancing the rear.I have been told that it can be balnced on a car tyre balancer if the hole in the centre of the wheel is more than 1.5 inches wide. Is this true? It's just that bike shops near me want £60 for fitting and balancing a rear which I think is extortionate! Any info is greatly appreciated.

sounds like a piss take to me, 5 minute job, we use static balancer's with a special adaptor. More accurate and 10 times quicker, if your near donington park i'd do it for free

Yes the rear can be balanced on a car balancer, had mine done on one a few weeks back. Cost me £20 per wheel to fit, revalve and balance.

Watling tyres fit and balance them £10 per wheel, and yes the rear can be done on a car wheel balancer.

Thats to loose wheels, not ride in ride out.

Did you buy the tyres from the place that quoted you that price? some places get funny about fitting tyres you dont buy from them and think they can charge you extornsionate prices, that or they havent a clue what their doing, either way steer clear from them in the future.

may i ask why balence a rear wheel ? that is no point at all. Maybe a front but rear there is no point due to power going threw it u wont feel if its out

i was goin to say something like that, went to ask about gettin a rear fitted and the guy said they dont need balancing and the company has been goin for 50ish years so they know wot they are talkin about

I personally wouldn't use an unbalanced rear wheel! Race teams would faint at this suggestion.

It may be more difficult to feel if it's unbalanced, but the drivetrain and bearings will sure know about it and it will be less efficient.

Might be an idea to check whether they have an adapter to balance a single sider wheel...

FWIW, do they recommend balancing the rear wheels on cars that are RWD?
