nc30 rear suspension help
Hi all, I have replaced the standard shock with a maxton unit, my problem is, with, what in the haynes manual calls a metelastic bush, it says to mark the relative positions of the shock and the pivot before separation to ensure they can be fitted together in the same position. Well I didn't mark anything and I was replacing the old unit with the maxton unit so I was thinking it wouldn't have made any difference anyhow. But what is the correct procedure in setting this metelastic bush with a new unit
And if it's not set correctly what problems can it cause?
I apologise for the long post....

Re: nc30 rear suspension help
bolt on shock lower mount has to be torqued up and cannot be accessed with a torque wrench when in position on bike. would fit bottom shock bolt loosly till all in position then tighten with spanners using threadlock as a precaution done this without any problems in past all other bolts can be torqued ok in situ. might be something to do with affecting rising rate if bolted up tight in wrong position
believe nc35 knuckle has a bearing instead of the bush on bottom shock mount which gives a nicer suspension action.

Re: nc30 rear suspension help
Having changed a fair few shocks I have never worried about it. Just make sure it is not too tight..
rising rate if a funciton of the leverage of the linkage and nothing to do with bushes or tightening of bolts.

Re: nc30 rear suspension help
mmm... ok stand corrected doesn,t affect rising rate then but the last two i,ve removed have been bolted solidly to the knuckle with no movement at all which would suggest all the suspension action is done mainly through the two mounts with the bearings inside the haynes manual stresses that position is critical to the suspension operating correctly or is haynes book talking pish ?

Re: nc30 rear suspension help
I've never bothered with the Haynes manual when changing shocks - works fine for me, but as has been pointed out recently, what would I know! A bush is a bush aint it?
