rvf400 quater mile
hey people
i am taking my bike down to eastern creek in sydney to run a quater mile....my bike is standard apart from drilled slider holes and 1mm washers and a tyga maggot exaughst...i was wondering if there is anything i should do to help my time i am going in 5 days time....also does anyone know a rough standard quater mile time for the rvf..
since this picture i have replaced the front screen and added the maggot

make sure the bike is fuelling right...
Normally you do not drill the slides on an RVF...
ALso, drop the gearing - it will pull the revs faster and use clutchless shifts.
Practice your starts too...

There's not much to it as long as the carbs are set-up and you can launch it. Just be thankful you're not launching a pig of an NC30

You'd be looking at a time in the 12-13+ second bracket depending on your bike and launch I reckon.

what do u mean by fueling right and carbs right?
and why is it not good to drill the sliders and 1mm washer on the nc35s i found a big difference its smother and goes harder

It won`t go any "harder".on nc30 you drill the carb slides to improve throttle response,it wont go any faster.
you shouldn`t drill the slides on 35s

well i was told on a 35 it was a good idea....i found the excelleration to be alot smoother no flat spots...whats the reason why u shouldnt do the mod on a 35...what does it effect

Raising the needles effectively brings the taper higher on the needle and richens the mid and top jetting.
Drilling the carb slides i dont know about, depends where you drill it, im presuming it affects the vacuum behind the diaphragm and spring somehow ?!?

how does it effect my 35 in a bad way....why shouldnt it be done...

If it's running fine, then it's all good. But the slide drill mod is for the NC30 - the RVF has different carbs and very different slides. There are HRC slide springs for the NC35, presumably because they're more effective than drilling the slides - HRC don't release parts for no reason. There were no HRC slide springs offered for the NC30 because drilling them does the trick (and is cheaper). Drilling affects the vacuum which moves the slides and hence the needle which determines your fueling (the throttle only operates the butterflys). did not end up going for the rund it raind all day cleared up in the afternoon but track conditions were not great
