Taking off (and on) a Std shock on a NC29 - how Hard?

Post by marty400 »

Hiya All,

Taking off (and on) a Std shock on a NC29 - how Hard?
(I've got the Haynes Manual - but would like to pick you brains as well, if thats ok!)

Do I really need to removed the rear seat units?!?!?
What about the plastic Battery holder unit etc??

Is there anything I need to be careful of?

I've got so far:
Block under rear wheel
Cloth under shock - to stop it dropping, when unbolted, and chipping anything
Thread lock when putting back on

Hope you can advise
Cheers
Martin

I used a rear stand and put a jack under the engine (pipes). Break the bolts loose and raise/lower the jack till the bolts slide out. Shock didn't drop, just came out, and put the new one in. If you are using an aba stand put the jack under the wheel/tire/swingarm.

I removed the tail, but don't know if that was necessary, the batt tray stayed. Very easy compared to an nc30
being able to ride from point A to point B does not mean you have skills

Did the same as slo12 also and is far easier than in the manual. I used front and rear stands to keep the bike level but can get away with just rear, place a jack under the bike to stop it dropping down when the shock is taken out (I used one under the engine and one under exhaust but can use just one), take the seat and tank off, undo top and bottom bolts on shock and out it comes :) I have done it 3 times and it can be done in 20 minutes now. Was about an hour first time round. Best of luck
