NC30 won't start

Post by TJenkos »

Got to work yesterday no problems, however was subject to a heavy downpour. None the less, made it there.

Time to go home and it wasn't having it. Turning over but looked like no spark...

I've pushed it the 3 miles home today to work on it properly and wanted some help!!

I've WD40'd everywhere incase there is water in the electrics, what else should I try?

Also on the fuel tap, I've always had only the ONE vacuum pipe going to the more inner pipe pointing downwards.. (obviously along with the main pipe!)

Now, As i've taken the tank off, it seems that this one vacuum pipe isn't actually plugged in at the other end!! Could anyone tell me where this should go, and if this would stop it from starting up?

I've had a few troubles over 80/90mph where it pretty much stops accelerating and then dies in power until I have to pull over and rev it a bit. Is this that problem??

cylinder no3 has a little dooberry/grommet/nipple where this vacuum line attaches. you should be able to see it if you get down and look.

Could be the same issue - fuel starvation as the tube probably perished and finally split/snapped.

If you're sat on the bike looking down at where the tank should be, cylinder 3 is in the bottom right, with the carbs on it's a pain to see but it is actually possible to find the nipple and attach a hose with the carbs on, assuming you don't value your knuckles/skin :p

With the carbs off it's a doddle :p

Primary resistance on each coil pack is within spec..

Secondary resistance (between the two HT leads) is only momentarily but within spec. Should it be momentarily?

Why would both coil packs go wrong at the same time?

After much reading, believe it may be the ignition box so am going to try source one and give it a go, otherwise any other ideas much appreciated!

So, if anyone has one please let me know. If local to Derby, could I perhaps try yours?

I had something similar after a particularly heavy downpour, eventually traced to moisture in the switches - including the kill switch.

Lots of contact cleaner in all switches and plugs followed by lots of WD40. Suddenly bursts back into life and has been good as gold since.
