NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
I`m buying a rs250 shock which has been used not for long.It is the one that has adjustable ride height.
The thing is that for the moment i`m doing a conversion, back end from r1 5jj to the original frame, almost everything is sorted
I just need to buy the lights and back seat, and to sort out battery box and the position of rectifier, cdi and all that
but the problem is the back end sits too low and from a normal car you cannot really see the lights and
also I like it when it sits a bit higher.I`ve looked last night here and found out that if I drill (dog bone) suspension linkage
8 mm to the right as you look from under the bike it lifts the back end with 35 mm.I need a bit more so
I was thinking if I get the rear shock from rs250 it is 10 mm longer so that gives me another 35 mm at the back
and i can adjust the suspension with another 8 mm(as it has adjustable height) it will give me another 30 mm I guess
so that will be enough. But the question it is safe just to put the spring from the nc30 shock on the rs250 shock?
Will it work?I am not planning in re-valving the rs250 shock or anything, just the nc30 spring on it.

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
So let me get this right,
you want to drill the dogbone that will give you 35mm,
then you want to fit the rs shock that will give you another 35mm,
then tou want to adjust the the shock to gain another 8mm.
So if my maths are right, 35mm+35mm+8mm=78mm.
You may get away with it if you use two steering dampers,
because it will want to shake it's head off.

Hi.You got this pretty right, except ,the shock is adjustable you can adjust it from 0 to 8 mm and that will give me around 30 mm at the back so will raise in total with around 100 mm.
Does anyone own or knows a cheap-ish steering damper that will do the job?
Thanks

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
So, the problem is the position of the rear lights on the R1 subframe rather than a problem with actual rear ride height?
WHy not adjust the subframe?
You will probably find that hunter was being sarcastic when he suggested using two dampers. It is not a great idea to ramp up the ride height as much as that.
The rocker linkage will also be a problem I suspect.
Ref the shock - you should revalve it as you may end up blowing the seals as the rebound damping is too lame for the stiffer NC30 spring rate...

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
What you are suggesting to do outsider will basically make your bike unrideable and horribly twitchy, are you using a 17 or 18" wheel? If you are using a 17" is it a 150 or a 160 section? My bike is kicked up alot on the rear but my bike is quite unusual but I have stuck to simple tried and tested methods, I run a 160 section 17" rear, a Rvf dogbone linkages, Rs250 ride height adjustable shock (not set to its heighest setting), the majority of the kick up is due to a modified Tyga subframe to accept a cagiva mito rear end. I also run a complete Ducati front end and it all works fantastically well together. But generally it is best to stick to a shock plus 10mm or the Rvf (or modified) dogbone linkage.
Need any used Nc30 parts? Want to fit a Ducati front end to your Nc30? If so give me a shout.

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
Well ,I do not want to cut and weld the subframe because I am not such a great welder. Also I am pretty tall for the bike
I`m 6 ft and I feel a bit weird on the bike.I have the 18" wheel and also I thought the rs250 shock absorber is pretty good.
Also if I start to cut and weld the subframe I will end up changing everything, seat position, seat mount and all that.So thought the shock will do the job

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
Hi again.I think i found a sollution but I need your advice to see if it works.
It this picture there is the dog bone mod.The bolt is in the original hole and the hole
from the right has been drilled 10 mm away from the original one,and this brings up the back 35 mm
.From what i`ve read if you put a 17" you loose ride height so the dog bone mod comes in and brings up the back
in its original position. Now the question is: What if I drill for example 30 mm away from the original hole
will this raise the ride height? If it works what do I loose and what do I gain?
All the best
Eddie

Hi Eddie, please don't drill a hole in the dogbone 30mm in as you will ruin the handling of your bike, in the long run it isn't worth cutting corners if you want the right look and still want the bike to perform as it should you will have to alter the subframe simple as. If you do drill your dogbone and it all goes tits up I can always sell you a new dogbone
. I'm 6'1" and my bike fits me perfectly, feet flat on the floor with a slight bend in the leg it you are tall the only way to make these bikes fit is to alter the subfame angle combined to sensible suspension tweeks.
Heres a picture of my bike with suspension and subframe tweeks.

Re: NC30 suspension and ride height advice please
your gonna have to mod the subframe mate.
if you drill dogbone 30mm in
1.your not gonna get everything bolted back together / exhaust collector gonna foul linkage.
2.spring rate increases so shock gonna be hard as fook.
3.sidestand gonna be too short to be any use.
4.bike will handle like a bag of shite.
im 6'2" got rs250 shock 8mm lift no problems for years
