Nothing more to say really, if it's been organised it'll be here.

Race tyre suppliers NW

Post by LostanFounds » Thu Nov 23, 2017 10:29 am

Morning Chaps/Chapesses.

Seeing if anyone has contact details for a decent racing tyre supplier in North West.?
Looking for threaded tyres and maybe set of slicks dependant on if I'll be allowed to run them in F400 classes.
I know the old different compounds debate will probably go on forever so if any have a good knowledge this would also be a factor in using a good supplier. Any help appreciated, thanks.

SteF.

Most F400 classes required treaded tyres so no slicks - certainly with Bemsee & North Gloucs. Pirelli Supercorsas seem to be the firm favourite with most racers although I quite like the Avon Extreme's and a few of the fast guys really rate the Conti Race Attacks.
If you're racing with either of the clubs above A R Racing are normally in the paddock and offer fairly decent prices and fitting on site for Supercorsas & Conti's - Don't think they do the Avons unless you pre-order them (avoid the Avon wets though - most people don't seem to like them)

Re: Race Wets Recomendations..?

After a late but Happy return to the race track this weekend at Oulton Park.
I faced inclement weather conditions and faced that dreaded decision “Is it wet enough for wets’ or “ Can I get away with my treaded soft compound tyres”
All down to confidence really. I didn’t feel confident in my 2012 set of wets.... so a bit slippy / slidy but just about got away with it on my Avons SC1 & SC2.!
Anyway this conundrum leads me to ask what Wets people are using on their F400’s. I have a 17” rear with a RO conversion hub. The Metzeler brand look like they may foul the swing-arm & chain when they start to get soft.! Is there any recommendations I can invest in for next season..?

I dont race f400 any more, but I would have gone for your 2012 wets, they should have made great intermediates! Wets only seem to be super gluey tacky for the 1st year, after that they lose that feeling.
Metzeler racetecs are great rain tyres. I've mixed brands before (without any issues) just to get a 160 on the rear.
Just dont go Dunlop kr364 inter or the like. The compound is way too hard for wet use now.

Dunlop, Metzeler, Pirelli & Bridgestone wets all seem to be very similar, I've not really found anyone with a particular preference. I use Avons in the dry but have heard a lot of bad reports about their wets so best to avoid those!

Interestingly this very topic is being debated on the BEMSEE F400 facebook page and Bridgestones seem to be the preferred option
