My 1st NC23 in NZ
Decided to start a build thread on the latest of my collection....
Bought this little bike from a 'damaged motorcycles' auction. It has had a quick head-on so has all the trademarks of a massive frontal impact.
I crossed my fingers and hoped that it would only require a set of forks and some new fairings......we shall see!!!
It was pretty heavy to push towards the trailer when I picked it up and once I got it home I found that I couldn't get it into neutral??
1st thing I did when I got it home was I stripped the fairings off it...
I added a fresh battery into the equation in the hope that the neutral light might help me out a little (not knowing at all if the instrument cluster worked).
Well the good/great news is that all of the electrics work! Every light, indicator etc works. Brilliant. That is a good starting point. Still can't find neutral though, so that will require some more investigating in the light of day.
The headlights are splayed out, looks hilarious!
I pulled the clutch in and decided to turn it over. Checked it was holding fluids first and it is holding oil and water with no leaks. Gave it a whirl and it sounds pretty good when turning over, has good spark as well. I think it will be a runner once I fix the gearbox?

Re: My 1st NC23 in NZ
I've bought a lot worse - looks like a nice little project.
The issue with finding neutral is a bit weird - can you select all the other gears? Neutral can be a bit tricky to select, try wiggling the rear wheel back & forth while operating the gear lever - can't see anything obvious in the photos.

Am flying blind with this bike and have no idea of it's history whih doesn't help.
I'm.assuming the bike was in gear when it was crashed and maybe that sudden halt has snapped or bent something internally in the gearbox??
It will select all of the gears fine and feels and sounds good. I'll have another crack at it tomorrow after researching the manual a bit. I'm not a qualified mechanic.....just a backyard DIY guy with an interest in bikes!

Ok, so gearbox problem solved!
Was an easy fix too thankfully. Linkage was hooked up UPSIDE DOWN!!! No wonder I couldn't find neutral...duh.

Re: My 1st NC23 in NZ
Brand New chrome fork tubes arrived in the mail yesterday! Have ordered new fork seals and once they arrive I can whip the front end off and replace bent forks.
My mate broke a headlight trying to straighten them, so I'll be sourcing another light now as well for the rebuild.
I need this stuff:
Headlight bracket
Right Foot Peg
Headlight
Throttle cables
Clutch Cable
Battery
Possibly a new front rim
I WANT this stuff too:
New Tyres front and rear
Fairings
Short adjustable brake/clutch levers
Chain & Sprockets
Carbon Fiber Chain Guard
Carbon Fiber muffler
Air Filter
I'll try to replace forks before New Years!.....
