Project I know what I said but.........

Post by reverse cylinder jim » Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:38 am

Hi all

So a few forum members might be laughing right now as they recall me at Cadwell saying that I was done with 400's and I won't have another blah blah etc etc.
Well that was the plan until I heard about an nc30 project just down the road from me and I said to myself I'm just off for a look nothing else.........which ended in me buying the bloody thing!

Yes it's horrible and if I'm honest I'm not really sure which direction I'm off in yet but fingers crossed it will be coming to Cadwell next year!

Pics to follow once I've properly assessed the mess I've bought!

Cheers guys

So eventually got a few hours to tinker and on closer inspection this Nc has the usual issues.

First up was to give it a thorough de-greasing and removed chain as it was knackered. I then removed front sprocket cover ( panels were already off the bike ) and found the front sprocket bolt was loose and unwound to the point that the only thing holding it in place was the speedo drive!
On inspection it's running 14/44 gearing, I could be wrong but that is about right for Cadwell and not commuting which is strange as everything else is standard, even the exhaust.

Next up I removed the rear half of the exhaust as the connecting collors were non existent. I then took this work and tig welded some stainless collors on. That's about it for now but hopefully will get more tinker time in shortly.

Hi, I have spent 16 yrs on Cadwell with my nc23 triarm and have spent many hours trying various gearing and I can say from experience that the 14\42 is best for me. It allows very good acceleration out of new chicane in second and in to and over mountain in third, down to second into hairpin, short shift to third going through barn then all the way up the box, before braking down to fourth into coppice. Hope some of that helps.

Sadly not much spare time at the mo to progress as my t5 van is sapping every spare minute I have sadly. Will pull it out of garage in next few days and take a few pics and upload them.
It's not as bad as I'd first thought though, managed to change the oil and filter and with a battery she fired straight up and sounded lovely. First one I've ever owned running a standard can so very quiet.
