Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
Motor looked a bit abused so thought a slight cosmetic upgrade was in order
I did wash and give it a bit of a scrub a few weeks ago but still looked really dull and unloved.
The scratches on the sidecover are there for good so blasted the one off my parts motor (both sides)
Chose a gun metal engine enamel but it really did not spray very well.
Way too much sparkly flake for my liking too.
Tried heating the can up slightly but didn't help.
Not overly impressed with finish but it'll have to do for now.
Shims sorted while I had the cam covers off and motor ready to be hung back in the frame
Looks better in the pic than it really is lol

That engine looks tidy enough to me, and if it is a track toy does it really matter?
Nice build so far - keep it going

Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
Thanks NGneer!
A few updates:
Got the motor back into the frame, easier job than I thought it was going to be.
Time to start with the sub-frame and tailpiece.
Now I seriously have not got much time left, first event of the year is Sat 2nd Feb 19!
I unfortunately left the bodywork to the last minute. Found a supplier that makes a nice track kit based on the original bodywork.....
BUT their lead time is 10 - 15 working days. So shit......I missed it.
Had to come up with something which I did lol.
I have a copy of a TZ 3yl Tailpiece, so mocked it up and it doesnt look half bad.
Apologies in advance :) . It may not go down well with the members on here!
Will be ordering a proper kit for it next month.
Wont have a fairing, just naked with a number board on the front for the first event.
I had this subframe that came with one of the bikes that somebody had already started cutting bits off.
I would rather mock something up than cut a stock unit but as I said somebody had already started:
Completely de-tabed it and welded on brackets for the rear coil and supports for the tailpiece.
Then started with a battery holder and a channel that I will mount the regulator / rectifier and cdi.

Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
I planned on getting a lot more done last night........but ended up only getting the exhaust cleaned (inside and out) and fitted with new copper crush gaskets.
Most of the time was spent trying to extract a downpipe from a spare exhaust system as this set had a massive dent in it.
This is the offending downpipe, pic taken just after I got the bike

Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
Well......I missed it!
Needed to have the bike at the truck to get loaded for transport down to East London this morning.
Was just getting the last few things sorted out last night when the reg/rect gremlin and some melting wires fkd my plans up.
I should have done the tests 2 weeks ago.......but didnt!
Thanks to this forum I have been reading up on VFR Achilles so know what needs to be done!
All is not lost, been offered a ride on a pre-sling 750 so will still make the SA Classic TT this weekend.
Pics taken last night, this is as far as I got:
Still needed to tidy and tape up the back half of the loom

There's always something....Couldn't you bin the charging system and run on track with constant loss. Did this on my NC23 and can get a good 20 - 30 minutes track time out of the battery between charges

Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
Been a while since I have done anything on the bike, my work / income situation has changed recently and needed to concentrate some time and effort on that.
CB1pod70 I'm not a fan of total loss at all!
Will go mosfet and figure it out.

Re: Scott's NC30 Track Bike Build
And the stash keeps growing!
Picked this up cheap today, ex Powersport racebike from the early 2000's.
Was submerged in 2m of water in a garage during a flood 2 years ago unfortunately.
Owner only drained the oil and picked up the front to drain the pipes
Not expecting much from the inside of the motor!
