The nose cone is pretty trashed and the small parts of the tail section are all busted up beyond repair.

I hate painting tanks....all the stripping and prep work.....and if I was to repair the fairings and respray them I'd have to respray the tank too. PAINFUL.

There's an nc23 on tm with Chinese ones - they look pretty good I reckon? Did you see the other set on there for 100$? Look like fiberglass ones though TBH..tempting...

That NC23 on Trademe looks all wonky. Did you notice the front on pic & the lopsidedness of the screen??!!

As for those yellow 'OEM' fairings for $100.....they are defo fiberglass and the paint scheme isn't factory. I did contemplate them though, as I can work with fiberglass.

Replaced throttle cables tonight. Petrol tanks back on. Put the tail section fairings on to make myself feel a little better.

Bike's almost ready to fire up and take for a test ride. I just need to sort out the headlight bracket (2nd hand one's a bit mangled) & fit the instrument cluster back on.

Added a new battery to the beast. Initially had an issue with bike not turning over....turns out it was a blown 30A fuse. Easily sorted.

Drained the oil and replaced it with some good stuff.

Cranked her over and yippee kayae! Starts and runs well.

Just need to find a bracket for the cluster and then replace tyres, wheel bearings etc.

Last to sort for this will be the fairings. I have some 2nd hand fairings I plan on repairing myself. The easy option would be to buy some new chinese plastics but I'm a sucker for punishment and I want to paint the bike myself!!

The screws that hold a small fairing part to the underside of the brake light were rusted solid! Bit of a Kefuffle to get those rascals loose. Ended up getting brutal on one and drilling it out.

The 2nd hand tail light I purchased is from an MC22 CBR250. I often wondered if any parts from the 250 fitted the 400s.

Started the bike up and ran it for 10 minutes to test the radiator fan......it kicked in eventually.

New headlight/fairing bracket arrived from China. It was slightly bent, probably got knocked around in transit a bit? Straightened out easily enough though, as the metal is pretty thin and flimsy. I couldn't find a decent 2nd hand one here in NZ so opted for the Chinese version.

It will be fine.
