GREY NC30 REPSOL TO TYPE 1 BUILD
So in April 2015 I purchased a Grey NC30, in the Repsol colours with Chinese fairings from a guy in Scotland. It's had 3 previous owners and has apparently done 24,000km so nearly 15,000miles. The bike had been Sorn'd for the last 4 years and recently put back on the road, having had new chain and sprockets, fork seals, fork oil, battery, new starter solenoid, Chinese fairings and front tyre. The plan is to restore this to a standard type 1, which is one of my favourite schemes and the most classic. Included with the bike, were some of the original fairings etc, which just need some minor repairs and bit of general tidying up before finally being re-sprayed...which may be for some time yet lol. The majority of the bike is already standard, however there are some parts missing that I have already sourced from good old EBAY, Micks Bike Parts (Ireland) and David Silvers etc. Whilst I own another bike Suzuki GSXR K1 600, my knowledge about their workings is slim to none however this must change and I'm very keen to learn. As I have never done anything like this before its been a very very slow process, whilst the bike has now been fully stripped I have spent most of my time doing research, having things powdercoated/zinc plated and re-chromed etc. Just wanted to say thank you to those that have already given me advice on the forum as its much appreciated, no doubt I will need to ask many more questions in the near future. Anyway here are some photo's of the bike when I bought it, I have more photos which will follow in due course...

Re: GREY NC30 REPSOL TO TYPE 1 BUILD
Here are some pictures of things I had blasted by Redditch Shotblasting...
Some people say the standard finish on the swingarm is anodised?
Should I be coating the other two items with anything to protect them before fitting them to the bike at a later date?

Here are some pictures of what's been powder coated, also by Redditch Shotblasting. www.redditchshotblasting.co.uk. I'm more than happy with the work they have done for me and everything was masked properly etc. They are very helpful and their prices are good too. I would definitely recommend them. If anyone is going to the 22nd Carole Nash classic motorcycle show in Stafford http://www.classicbikeshows.com/event/t on the 17th and 18th of October they will have a stand there.

Redditch are a superb company, I've had things done by them in the past.
Looks like the bike will be a great looking example if the rest of the work is done to such a high standard. Nice one, good luck.

Re: GREY NC30 REPSOL TO TYPE 1 BUILD
Will be following this build as I'll be in the same boat soon. Will be picking up an NC30 in Nastro Azzurro colours but they're damaged and like you I'm a big fan of the Type 1 fairings. (I would post a pic of the bike but not sure how too!)
My dilema is to either be patient and wait for each Type 1 OEM panel to pop up on ebay or do I get the lot in one hit from China?!
I'm also a fan of any Honda in Repsol livery so if you're thinking of selling that set give me a shout!
Good luck with the build Oli!
PS Vtype, I've just read through your build thread, great work there mate, all very helpful when starting a re-build even more so when you're used to building Suzukis!
Cheers,
Dave.

Re: GREY NC30 REPSOL TO TYPE 1 BUILD
The brake discs were blasted by Redditch Shotblasting and they came out great and all the rust had gone, here are some pictures of them masked up which took a long time but was worth it and after they had been sprayed with hammerite smooth gold spray.

Rear brake disc was blasted, masked in a similar way and then coated with zinc primer before being sprayed. Here are some pictures...

Here are some pictures of the front brake calipers, they were also blasted, masked and sprayed with hammerite smooth gold.

Are you priming the alloy before painting with smoothrite?

No they were blasted and then just sprayed. The can says...Hammerite Metal Paint can be applied directly onto rusty metal thanks to a formula that has been developed to be a primer, undercoat and topcoat in one. It gives a brilliant gloss finish that is smooth to touch whilst forming a barrier that not only seals out moisture and gives long lasting protection, both inside and out.
