No spark
Hello, im in process of doing up a 93' gsxr400 and there is no spark. The bike has been sitting for prob 6 years in a garage and so i thought its high time it was back on road. (Its only done 19000km). Carbs have been off and cleaned professionally with ultrasonic along with new seals etc. New batt fitted and went to fire it up and no spark from any of the plugs. There is no obvious breaks in the wires in loom. inspected all the quick connects and the all seem intact.Took coils off the bike and put multimeter on them.what reading should i get? Maybe they are knackered, and what the best place to source new ones? Help!

Re: No spark
Coils are prob OK, but should be only a few ohms Primary resistance, and into the K ohm range on secondaries. The most likely culprit is
- cdi
- wiring problem around cdi and coils. Check you have ground and a solid 12 volts to the cdi, and that the continuity to the grounding on the coils from the cdi is good. You should have 12 volts sat on the + side of coils at all times.
- sidestand switch??
- knackered plugs
- there's a resistor in the plug caps for rf suppression. That may be open circuit.
- battery with at least 13 volts and in sound condition.

Re: No spark
Got to start at the plug and work back so as mo says you should have 12v at the ht coils, one wire ( think orange and maybe white) supply 12v the other wires (black with tracer ) pulse the coils.
Check that there is 12v, if you have 12v then need to check you are getting a pulse and if no 12v then need to follow this back and find out why not, connections, fuse etc..
Also safety switches and kill switch can be sticking after a long park up so clean these.

Re: No spark
Thanks for the info guys, im away from home working but will get amongst it when i get home.
Also will 400 bandit coils fit and work?. They seem to be more readily available rhan rrying to source a set of gsxr ones
