ZXR L model, which year?

Looking for a ZXR400 track bike, I understand the L models produce a few more horses than the H. As most track and race bikes are heavily modded is there an easy way to tell which year the bike is? Engine and frame numbers? Are they stamped L1 L2 L3 etc.
Many thanks in advance :P

the l models are all exactly the same throughout the years apart from some of the very late ones that did have some engine upgrades, (stronger conrods and some other bits i cant remember right now)

Many thanks Chowder,
If a seller claimed to be selling a 1996 track bike without a V5 is there a simple way to tell that it was actually '96 and not '91 or '92....….......?

you should be able to tell from the frame numbers, there's a lot of info on zxrworld if you want to find out anything on the zxrs

Enter the frame number on this page and it should give you the year and spec.
