3EN1 Front Brake Rotors
Hi all,
It's been a while. Hope all of you are doing well. I have an issue with my front brake rotors I hope I can get some help with. So the bike is a 3EN1. I recently replaced the front brake rotors with EBCs. Problem is I now get a lot of pulsing and vibration under moderate to hard braking. I put the old rotors back on and they are fine so that eliminates head bearings or some other issue. I noticed that the old rotors do "float" quite a bit on their buttons/bobbins. The EBCs are as stiff as a teenage boy staring at MotoGP Umbrella girls. Even though they have a spring washer and are supposedly "floating" they do not budge. I suspect this is why I am getting the pulsing/vibration.
I could ditch the EBCs but OEM rotors are unobtainium. I thought about FZR600 rotors but they are a different P/N so I suspect they will not work. Any ideas?

How old are the EBC rotors, do you have the receipt - the first thing would be to try and get these sorted, advise the bobbins are stuck and ask to send them back. hopefully EBC will rebuild them.
After that its down to how much you want to spend, 3en1 discs are 285mm anything after that is 298mm so you'll need forks, the FZR600 3HE uses 38mm dia forks which will fit your triple clamps and has a similar front wheel.

Re: 3EN1 Front Brake Rotors
Thanks Evil. I guess FZR600 rotors are 298mm then? I bought the EBCs on Amazon back in May 2018, so now well past the return window. Was thinking to remove the buttons (they appear to be riveted) and replace with Brembo buttons (that have C-Clips). The Brembo buttons are 14mm diameter so should work.

I guess you can use Brembo … I think Galfer also do bobbins but not sure about the diameters.
I'm not sure about the disc sizes for the earlier fzr600 … the problem is they'll be quite old and therefor the discs are likely to be worn. could you mount the EBC wearing disc on the Yamaha carriers ?

Re: 3EN1 Front Brake Rotors
The EBC bobbin diameter where it passes through the rotor is 16mm. Now I have to determine the diameter of the Brembo bobbins. Google no help on that! Unfortunately I can't mount the EBC discs on the Yamaha carriers as the EBCs have nine bobbins and the OEM Yamaha have eight. All part of the challenge!

These don't make the best discs, but they did rebuild my Brembo discs
Give them a try http://www.blackshadow-uk.co.uk/Discregrind.html

Re: 3EN1 Front Brake Rotors
Turns out the bobbins I need for the EBC rotors are 16mm. I found some here and have put in an order:

Got the 16mm bobbins from Performance Parts in Germany. They are high quality and come in a variety of colours (I went for Blue to match the fairings). I ground off the riveted EBC bobbins and fitted the new ones which come with a circlip and a spacer washer. Floating nicely now!
