1wg chinese fairing customs :(

Post by cameron1590 » Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:04 pm

Hi guys

I bought a set of chinese fairings for my fzr 1wg. They have been held in customs for the last few days. I spoke with customs and they said due to the high amount of copied goods/fakes every parcel has to under go official checks. They said if the fairings copy any trademarks of yamaha they will be seized.

So im guessing mine are going to be seized ? Any one have any experience?

Cheers

Cameron

I have no experience of this
However
It's the trademark of Yamaha so you might be ok, it could mean the makers mark and part numbers cast into the fairing on the inside. If you're unlucky they'll take the view the "Yamaha" stickers are infringements but I'd argue that paintshops use them over here (they might have permission though). These parts haven't been advertised as original Yamaha (I hope) they might even say they are replica in which case you might have an argument.
Go over the original advert again and if it backs you up then use it, if it doesn't then cross your fingers.

Cameron;
I think the trademarks thing is more to do with copyright infringments and copying of designer labels.
Beware however of having import duty imposed on the fairings as they have not been imported from a E.U location.
I received a set of NRC engine casing covers from the U.S and was charged a £8 handling fee plus £8 import duty.
The casings were valued @ sub £75 and classified as a gift on the shipping manifest. (actual was £180 and still a massive saving on UK vendors prices)
The vendor paid the excess in my case.
I believe you will eventually get your panels but only when notified by the carrier and you pay the import duty.
The government is desperate to claw every penny possible from the consumer.

Please post up the outcome so others considering these panels are aware of the stuation.
The fairings got good reports on other sites regarding finish and fitment.

Had a chat with Cameron via another forum today;

" I had to pay £30 on import duty. The quality and finish was excellent however they did not fit the rear seat cowl left a 2inch gap around the seat and the nose cone didnt have any correctly drilled holes.

My advice would be either get the fairings you have repaired or wait for some replacement fairings.

The bike is an 87 fzr 400

Regards

Cameron"
