Hi - My Loctite 4DX is looking real tatty - is it safe to use some kind of paint stripper chemical on plastics or should I stick with sanding down with wet & dry? Would like a quick method but don't want to melt my panels!!

I've always use a sander with course grade then medium and fine, but keep it moving so you don't flat spot the panel.
Paint stripper heats the paint so it melts, I wouldn't use it on plastic

And remember if you take it down to the plastic to use a plastic primer else the paint may not take.
I try to only sand down to the original primer and go from there.

I think, but I may be wrong, that you can have plastic soda blasted.

Thanks for all the advice - will start tackling it soon. Also got some wheels to do - I pressume paint stripper will be ok on those? Would it be best to get wheels powder coated and anyone know a rough cost please? Thanks

For the wheels it's best to get them powdercoated and they same company will strip them too. Ring around a couple of places near to you (try yell.com) and see what they charge.

Hi Hagrid - haven't started doing it yet but hoping to start soon over the winter. I found a place locally that charges £40 per wheel for stripping and powder coating so that seems a good price to me. Hoping to have it done ready for about March, along with new steering head and wheel bearings.

March should be doable
£40 a wheels sounds reasonable too, usually they want the wheels without the bearings though.
Hmmm headraces ... better break out the big hammer then
