A couple of questions on the 3tj petcock
Can anybody please explain the workings of the 3tj petcock to me?
I tried looking for a 3tj or 4dx owners manual but couldn't find one.
I'm presuming the petcock will release fuel automatically when the fuel pump draws it through but will auto shut off when the fuel pump is not running and is totally automatic in operation, never needing to be manually turned off or on?
If that is the case then it should not pass fuel when the pipe is disconnected from the filter, if it does then something somewhere is wrong with it, am I right about that?
Thanks

Re: A couple of questions on the 3tj petcock
Thanks Evil One.
So again presumably, it's a petcock but you dont turn it off when you stop and park the bike?
But you can if you feel like it, get a pair of pliers and break it while trying to turn the fuel off when removing the tank.
Also the fuel pump must have a shut off valve built into it, that will be used for fuel shut off instead of a manual petrol tap, again that is a question?

Yes ... you don't turn the petrol OFF unless your takin the tank off.
Once you've broken a tap your a real 3tj owner
Check the eBay look for a GS 500 fuel tap ... well Ok just buy this one 201670218414 . Unclipped the chrome front and wiggle pull th center bit out (carefully theres a little spring behind it) now swap it into the 3tj tap.
Yes the fuel pump has a pressure switch so it cuts out when the flot bowls are full. When you start the bike from cold usuing choke allow the pump time to run and cut out, dnot just turn on the igniton and hit the button

Re: A couple of questions on the 3tj petcock
I've already fitted a GS500 metal part to my petcock after I broke the plastic part about five months ago, I found the 'how to' on this forum.
I was wondering if I had assembled it wrongly but if it's supposed to flow all the time it's all good.
That one on ebay is at a good price though, I paid about double that for mine, and I had to replace the O-ring as well.

If you're taking the tank off a lot you can fit a dry break connector - I put one on the last project I did
