3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
Hi Guys, this may have been discused somewhere else, but i have a 3TJ-1 with a 600 engine, for racing, and would like to increase the rear rim size to a 5.00inch and still run a 160 tyre. I was looking at a 1994 TRX850 5.00inch rear rim the other day, and was wondering could this fit? has anyone any knowledge on this change over. The 4.00inch rim with a 160 just slides around to much when your right on the edge of it, as the profile is so steep, so hence going down the 5.00inch way.
Rustys.

4.5" rim on a 3TJ.
Kayla is probably the girl to talk to. I think she'll recommend you use a swingarm from the FZR600R, T'Cat, or TRX850, this should get you around any clearance issues but you'll have to work out the sprocket alignment is ok. You'll probably need the rear brake to go with the swingarm and raise the ride height to compensate for the flatter profile

You could try the cbr400 ... find out what size it is, I think they take a 17 160

Re: 3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
Have you thought about a ZZR600 Rear Wheel
They are Cheap and use a 160/60 ZR17 Tyre as Standard
(Think it's 5")
I will get into the Garage Tomorrow and get all the Measurements for you

Do you think maybe a 150 tyre would be better ? It would be a flatter profile and you'd use more of it, may try one on a tract day or practice ... easier than changing the wheel but you might the choice a bit limited

Re: 3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
Early zx6 use a 5" rear, you usually find they are slightly wider especially where the sprocket mounts but ive seen people get them machined to realign.
This is a general and not specific to the fzr.

Re: 3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
i've got a 3tj/6 that i bought off Kayla. It came with a 5.00 rear rim off a foxeye i think. I would be willing to sell the whole wheel, brake and fittings if you're interested as i'm going with a different rear end.

Re: 3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
Thanks chrisexup, is the swing arm the same as the 3tj-1? Machining is not a problem for me to adapt a wheel anyway. Getting a wheel shipped to little NZ might be pretty costly these days.

Re: 3TJ-1 Rear wheel options
i didn't realise you were in NZ! Yup that would be costly! If you want me to send pics/measure spacers etc. that's no problem. i'm not sure what differences there are between 3tj swingarms i'm afraid. I have an idea the SP ones may be different ?
