CB400 Cylinder Head Torque?

Post by JamieCB400 » Mon Jun 06, 2016 8:46 pm

Hi,

Currently in the process of replacing my head gasket on my 95' CB400, for the 2nd time.

Was looking for the proper torque for the cylinder head bolts?

I have a copy of the Russian (poorly translated) manual which gives a head bolt torque of 29Hm. I assumed this was supposed to translate to 29Nm but that doesn't seem very tight in comparison to when they were removed.

Was looking for the specs ASAP as the bike has already been in bits for a month waiting for the cam chain.

Thanks in advance!

Should be 30nm or 22.13ft/lbs
P.S. I take it you meant the nuts to tighten down the head

Thanks.

Still seems pretty low, a few recent bikes I've worked on had a torque around 55nm.

Will try get it built tonight. Fingers crossed this is the final time.

When you torque them down do it in stages from the centre nuts outwards ie start off say 5ft lbs to 10 ft lbs to 15 ft lbs to 20 ft lbs and finally 22.5 ft lbs to try and pull the head down evenly .
