Thanks for the fix, I'm not brilliant with pc's, possibly one of the few people of my generation who don't care or like computers that much :)

I originaly was planning to get a full system and a re-sculptered seat, But as I ride two up all year and my insurance has dropped, I will be swopping it for a bike that can cope better lugging about 26-30 stone of combined weight around ;)

Thinking a TDM850 or a VFR750/800 :? but need a test ride on both. Tried a Fazer600 at weekend, and wasn't any better than the lil cb :) I'd love to keep it as well but can't afford :P

Oh and I originaly meant to post the pics in the show us your bike section lol!

Nice bike. I can't remember seeing any V-Tecs on here...?

I just traded my CB400 for a VFR750, I bought a 1997 FV (one of the last of the 750s, before the 800 came out). It's an amazing bike, really effortless at cruising. Although, it does feel heavy after the little 400.

There's quite a few things to look for when buying one, there's a thread here that might help:

http://www.bikersoracle.com/vfr/forum/s ... hp?t=97852

This time of year, you should pick up a really nice one for around £1500 or less.

BTW, my insurance is an extra £70 a year, fully comp with a low excess.

HTH.
Alex.

:D Thanks for the reply alexi, I'll check the thread out, I got told by the local mechanics that the biggest thing to watch for is rotting down pipes, but pretty bomb proof other wise :)

My insurance is a £24 increase tpft, which I'm certainaly happy with! whats the fuel consumption like? The main worry I have about choosing one is the maintenance cost, It's why I'm going for a test ride on the tdm too. Glad the vtec is appreciated, I have to agree with most people when they say they are great lil bikes, and I'd keep her if I didn't ride two up all the time!

Yep. rotting downpipes = ££££ to replace. Plenty of VFRs have already had the originals replaced with S/S systems (originals are said to last about 10 years), so it's an easy problem to avoid altogether if you shop around.

The rear shocks are expensive to replace (£300+) so check it carefully. Headstock bearings should be checked too. And if you can, get one that's had the valve clearances checked recently, as this is an expensive service item.

Dunno about fuel economy yet, as I've not had a chance to get any figures together. Having said that, I filled up with a tank of premium unleaded and rode for 200 miles before the light came on - beats the SF's 150 mile range hands down (but by using a bigger tank)! That reminds me, must fill up in the morning ;-)

Don't worry about the maintenance cost, it's not going to be significantly higher than the SF, as long as you get one that's been looked after.

In case you're wondering, I paid £1000 for mine, she's a 1997 with 37,000 miles (complete with full S/S exhaust) and she looks like this:

:o oh my god, she is gorgeous!! And for a grand!!

I haven't seen one looking that good in any of the dealers near where I am, and sadly I need to go back through the dealer I got the sf from, Aiming to not pay a penny and do a strait swop, which the dealer is ok with for the sum of around £2300 for mine, and he has a 1998vfr coming in on thursday and the tdm I'm looking at is a 2000 w reg.

I must admit I prefer the older shape vfr's, They look fantastic, and If the v4 engine is anywhere near as good as the one in the rvf, I'd be very happy!

out of curiosity, what do you reckon I should ask for mine if I sold it private? :)

Thanks very much! :D To be fair, she looks better in the photo than in the flesh. Underneath the shiny fairings there's a fair bit of corrosion - nothing serious, but she looks as though she's seen a good few winters without much in the way of protection...

You know I said to check out the VFR Club forum? Well, unfortunately they've closed it for a few weeks for a server upgrade or some such thing  so if you need any buying advice just ask. You can pm me rather than cluttering up the forum threads with non-400 related stuff.

I'm with you on the looks of the VFR. They look even better with a custom underseat exhaust to show off the open rear wheel!

I don't know what a V-Tech SF is worth, TBH. Maybe start another thread and ask the others?
