Tickover..QUESTION

Post by geoff916 » Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:42 pm

So after having the carbs on and off AGAIN AND AGAIN AGAIN AND AGAIN !!
It now ticks over at 1000 rpm, steady as a rock ! carbs balanced, 2.5 turns out on the mixture.

(ticks over smoother than my blackbird !! (injection))

She revs dead smooth , no lumps of farts! and the revs drop almost instantly so I'm happy (I think )

BUT....I have a question, the idle adjust is not even contacting the carb. Throttle cable is ever so slightly slightly slack, Is this ok ? :?: :?: :?: :?:
Also at 1000 rpm sounds slightly "clonky" but as soon as the revs rise, all is quiet.

thanks for any answers in advance

Should be around 1300rpm. Throttle should have a little play . Can't remember exactly, Haynes is you best friend.

Hi Geoff, a well setup set of carbs will idle at 1000rpm but the engine will normally be happier at 1350. These little engines have very little crank mass so can seem a bit clonky when the idle is set too low

could it be the fuel pump? Try bypassing the pump (disconnect the wiring too) and running the bike from a remote tank or even the main tank as long as it's over half full so the fuel level is above the carbs.
