Not sure if my fork or bottom yoke is out of plac. HELP!

Post by Bowches » Fri Feb 10, 2017 9:10 pm

My top yoke is not lining up properly with both my forks. As a result one of the forks is at A VERY TINY angle and the brakes touch quite alot on the left fork.

I took them out and took it to a Bike shop and then the mechanic pointed out a very small dent in the right fork. The right fork is the one that seemed straight and is not touching the brake pads when tightened up properly and set in place.

So it seems I have to change the chrome (reflective part) on the right fork as there is a very small dent which is hard to spot by the eye straight away but you can feel it when you rub your thumb against it.

But I dont understand why the left fork does not seem to line up properly.....The mechanic said the left fork seems ok and this includes the chrome part. But I dont understand why it doesnt line up properly. Could this be the bottom yoke??

Please help....anyone got any ideas to know whats wrong on the left side.

What do you think....is it the left fork or the bottom yoke.....I should include pictures

Could be forks, top yoke or bottom yoke, yokes are not particularly strong on any of the NC models. Best option would be to give the whole front end to someone like maidstone motoliner to straighten up

Before you spend money try this method of making sure your forks are lined up correctly.

As long as you have a L or N model with the original forks it is the correct part number. If it had been for the R model it would be in my parts cupboatd now

Here is a picture of my bottom yoke with handlebars and forks off. You can see that it is clearly quite higher than the left yoke hole

Removing the bottom yoke, you just have to unscrew all the top stem nuts and it will drop out, maybe a slight push or tap down will dislodge it if its stuck, remember theres a washer tab that will have to be flattened at this point. It will give you a good reason to clean and re lube your head bearings.

I will also link you this video as its easier than trying to describe here on refurbing your forks when the time comes. https://youtu.be/BIgvyQybWyw hope it helps.
