the trouble with this mod IIRC is the VFR shock is slightly off set

It's possible to use an nc24 swing arm ( non offset shock tunnel) with an nc30 hub and wheel.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen, a lot of food for thought there.

VFR swingarm is going to be a no, as that would involve a lot more modification work to get the shocks correct, and I don't want to upset the balance of it all!

NC23 could be a solution here, I think what I am going to embark is the modification of the foot pegs initially as this could mean minor modification to the whole thing. I need the exhaust to come up from the brake foot peg side, to then go straight up to the seat then then along the tail to then split into two for the end cans... So I think I will have both side to keep it all even, moved 2" to then have the pipe run up inside it.

Probably doesn't make sense, so I will get some picture this weekend when I start it.

My next question....

The Forks!

Anyone modified these, I like the height, its perfect so any suggestions that make them "more" in a sense, without adjusting the height (hate the front end being too low!) would be great!

Looks like a good build thread here! Keep it up! Now we are back into winter I'm looking to get my 23 back in the workshop and this forum is too quiet!

Not too sure what you mean by "more" but with my 23 I felt they sagged and dived far too much. To solve the dive, I put 15w oil in the front, yes I'm a touch heavier than most 400 riders at just under 14 stone. To solve the sag, new springs are usually required, I had two 1" solid ally spacers made up (with a small hole through the middle to hook them out with, would be a nightmare if they didn't have the hole if you ever needed to remove them.) apparently it can also be done with PVC piping, I would just rather not use that method. The spacers also served to stiffen up the front end a bit (Slightly ghetto but it works!)

On my previous nc29 I fitted rvf400 fork cartridges using nc30 fork top caps.pretty easy to do ,you have to remove the valving from the bottom of the nc29 fork Stantion so that the cartridge will fit (2 mins with a grinder) and machine the brass adjuster on the rvf cartridge to fit the nc30 fork top ( £10 at a local machine shop) bobs your uncle 8-)

couple of things....

have you actually googled pictures of NC29s with underseat exhausts, I have never in nearly 20 years of NC29s seen one that looks any good.

hideous.... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=NC29+ ... MaCh2LCAp-

Secondly, you are obviously going for bling on this bike so USD is the only way to go really....RWU forks with the sliding calipers (although both work perfectly well) look very dated now.

If you got rid of the linkage to pass a pipe through and then relocated the shock to the top of the swingarm it would be quite neat.... You could run a pipe out of the tail and another under the gullarm like an rcv1000

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I am going to go down the modification of the foot pegs, I am not technical enough to start relocating the shock! I will obviously keep you up to date as how it is going when I start to crack on with that section.

What I would love to know a little bit more would be any modifications that enhance the performance of the bike, that isn't too technical to install (lol).

Cheers everyone :peace:

Not sure how 'not technical' you want but it may be worth talking to Graeme France http://www.gfracinguk.com/cbr400-nc29-g ... 12_14.html

Really helpful guy and a has spent years racing Hondas

http://www.nkracing.co.uk/NC29_Swingarm_LC.JPG This will give you clearance to get the pipes through the swingarm 8-)
