25 years for the 29, anniversary yoke covers

Post by Davez29 » Tue May 05, 2015 9:02 pm

Was thinking of the nc29s history and was wondering what to do for its 25th year, it had a press release of being sold in March 90. So thought maybe a celebratory yoke cover or small centre piece for the yoke would be appropriate. As it happens my mate does full colour tank pads and gel coated stuff so I guess this would be perfect if I could think of something. Sadly my mind is blank, all I can think of would be a "25 years Anniversary" in silver and black. i dont know really. Any ideas?

Silver and black? Maybe in red/blue/white would look nice

Yes I thought HRC colours but came to the conclusion it would stand out a bit too much. I suppose I need a PC to draw down some ideas. My mates going to scan my yoke and get a better idea of the shape to work on. Still unsure wether to go full covered or just a central area. I'm at the early stage I guess.

Maybe the little honda logo on the top could be replaced with one with 25 on it in gold with red numbers ?? :o

Alternatively 25th anniversary plates to replace the L.C.G. Plates on the frame ? 8-)

Yes, well looking around Honda seem to use white/red for their 50th cb400 so a bit gold edging may set it off for this little project. I like the alternative idea of the frame lcg plates as well.

So was thinking for the background in white, cbr400rr in silver or gold, thin red line around and with a stylised 25th anniversary garland underneath in red and perhaps a thin border in gold. If its only a centre piece you could have a red stripe on each end mimicking the cb400 colour scheme. Worst part is I don't have a PC now to check my ideas so I might not convey this very well. I don't want to add much more. I suppose I should mention nc29 somewhere as the cbr400 goes even further back.

OK its starting to take shape in my head, just got to get to my mates with my yoke. First I realized looking at my yoke that a centre piece would not work, too small an area. So going with a full cover, fork too fork, it will be in white, filling the shape but a cut out for the Honda wing, similar in looks to the cbr600 carbon ones seen on ebay. The left will be a gold wreath, possibly pin lined in red, with 25th in the middle, just below this with the word Anniversary, in red also, both pin lined in gold. Now just cutting the bottom of the wreath would be a Garland style ribbon in red with text 1990 to the left NC29 centre and 2015 to the right, in gold or possibly white.. The right side of the yokewill simply say CBR400RR in red with gold pinstripe.

So will it look good or crap, will people wonder, stare or laugh out loud, who knows and who cares.. Its for me.. My homage to a great bike.

Wait in wonder!

Just a quick update. The yokes scanned, the wreath is finalised but he has that much work on doing his in demand lovely looking tank pads he had to put my project back a few days, mainly because I wanted the CBR font changing to suit my bike. Should be done soon though.

Well my mate has done a couple of covers for me. To be honest they changed quite a bit from my original thoughts and colouring is now silver as opposed to my original gold lining thoughts, not so much red either. I think they look good in the photo but I have yet to see them in the flesh, its hard to tell on my phone, he is bringing them around tomorrow so I can choose which one I want as they are slightly different in colour in the ribbon text. He is going to put the one I don't want on eBay if it interests anyone.

On the yoke, Looks good to me..

I went for the silvered text in the garland ribbon, to be honest it doesn't look too much different from the white text but in the sunlight it reflects better.

Thanks to Steve for putting up with my constant sticky note ideas.. He sells great tank pads by the way. ;)

Happy 25th, NC29.
