fairing

Post by blade400 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:34 pm

Hello too all

I am new here, ive learnt and read some intresting topics

i really need some help from you guys

ive owned 2 cbr400 nc29 over last 10years, my problem ive had is the the fairings keep cracking due the vibration stress on the fixing points (lugs/tabs) cracking them. i could just put a rubber washer on, or maybe a rubber inlet washer (tophat washer) so the screw doesnt touch the fairing atall when attached....will this do? what do you guys use?

does anybody have any ideas, know where i can purchase the original rubber washers or a decent substitute?

ive bought a whole new fairing kit from skidmarx and dont wana put them on without the right washers

thanks, kind regards

I too would be interested.

Would rubber from an inner tube cut into a small washer style suffice to dampen the vibes?

gullarm..thanks for the idea...i did think of actually making one from some sort of rubber, just something small enough that will fit in the faring hole, and a rubber washer on top...so when the fairing screw goes in and hold the fairings in place no metal is touching the fairing.

but then petrolhead19 made a good suggestion (thank you) about the bush, i had a look at the website...i think its called a 'retainer' but couldnt find a pic of it...can u help petrolhead19

also Evilchicken from the FZR400 post gave me the link for http://www.grommets.co.uk/index.php/products
they have a few good bits and pieces there, def worth a look

oh btw i have found a decent solution for screen screws...their called push rivots
if want to see a pic of them go to http://www.cmsnl.com/products/push-rivet_90116mcsg00/

however i got mine from a company in uk called replicast uk
iv not fitted them on yet as still waiting for my fairings from skidmarx.
you push the push rivots in and then snap or cutt the top bit off, thats just there to insert the rivot in

thanks

yeah ive looked at this site before, what i found is that No: 47/48 are the screws that fit the fairings to the frame but no washers or rubber inlets are shown or stated in description. i thought that maybe the washers come with it when ordered. i dnt want to order it and the washers dont arrive.
