CBR400 Exhaust Compatibility

Post by mister c » Mon Nov 28, 2016 7:27 pm

I am on the lookout for an NC29 exhaust for a friend. Are all CBR400 headers & systems the same? Or are there any other compatible systems for the NC29?

My old CBR400 had a 'Muzzy' stainless exhaust system. Kawazaki race item with springs keeping the tension between the headers and back half.

I would imagine that all models of cbr400s have differing exhaust systems, mainly due to how they fit, even nc29s have two differing headers but in that case they would fit, but may cause small issues. There are Stainless systems about but choose carefully.

I've heard a lot of bad reports about the Black Widow systems that are on ebay but never tried one, so can't give a 1st hand report.
I can however give a good report for the GF racing system - not cheap at around £400 but it will give a performance upgrade and he can also advise on what you need to do with regards to up-jetting the carbs to suit.

Thanks for the replies. I'm fixing this up for a mate, who wants to try & keep the price down. I'll have to keep my eye out on Ebay to see what pops up. Looks like he may have to put his hands further into his pocket  :P

The standard exhaust systems are a dime a dozen mate. Have you searched the for sale section on here yet? Someone local is bound to have a spare exhaust lying around after upgrading theirs??....especially the guys that race these 400s, they're always changing the exhausts.

Good luck.

Cheers buddy. I've had an ad in the Wanted parts section for ages, but no bites :(

Gutted. They are cheap as chips over here in New Zealand!

What about internationally sourcing some? Have you checked how expensive freight from say USA or Thailand is?

Got fixed up now from a member on here. They should be on their way. Messaged the guy that owns the bike a few times & heard nothing back, so may have won a bike :)
