Handle bar grip changing

Hi folks, on with my CB400 SF resto (1992) and the handle bar grips need changing, I've seen utube clips about removing old ones on newer bikes that have bar ends but the 400 has what looks like a plastic cap on the end of the bar.

Do I need to do anything to the throttle cable before destroying the current rubbers please?

Thanks

I’ve never had a cb400 sorry so All i can suggest is take your time and assess how things are put together as you take it apart carefully

I've changed grips many times and never had to do anything to the throttle cable before hand. I remember the first time I tried it I spent a long time trying to peel the grip off :stupid: then someone suggested cutting it off  so it was out with the Stanley knife.

If you have access to compressed air squirt some down under the rubber grip while you pull it away. Also works for putting them back on.

Or try WD40 but you'll have to do a good job cleaning that up. Brake cleaner also works as a temporary "lube" to slip new ones back on which will then evaporate. But make sure materials that will touch the cleaner are compatible.

Failing that, as Foxy says, cut the blighters off.

I can't imagine the throttle cable needs touching but could be wrong. Can you post pics?

Guys, I've now discovered that the bike had had heated grips fitted previously, I'm really cautious about damaging something from the original set up, do I just start stripping the old grips off and hope for the best?

Thanks

Never had heated grips.

But it sounds like it's not very easy to remove them if you want to keep them.

Isopropryl alcohol squited down between the rubber and throttle sleeve/clip on will soften the glue allowing enough time to remove the grip intact.
