RVF400 consumables in USA

Post by dorkshoei » Wed Apr 03, 2019 9:58 am

Hi

So I just bought an RVF (from Japan) which is being shipped to me in the USA.

I know for a fact that the chain is shagged. On top of that it'll need a full service.

Does anyone know what consumables cross to other bikes (i.e likely available in the USA)?

- believe the oil filter is common to the CBR600
- 525 102 link chain is obviously easily available and since it's heavy, better to get in the US
- ER9EH spark plugs are obviously available

- air filter, I don't believe is available in USA. I'll probably have to get from UK (HIFlow seems 1/2 the price of OEM)
- 15/38 sprockets, I don't think they cross to anything more common so I'll have to order from UK
- wheel bearings, hoping these are fairly generic items that can be sourced from a bearing supply house?

Any other recommendations? Should I be getting any parts from Japan (where nothing seems especially cheap) to ship with the bike?

Thanks!

Have bought air filter for NC30 from partzilla and P/N is same for NC35. Your comments regarding other consumables are valid. Other items like gaskets and o rings can be common to other Honda models or can be sourced from UK.

I discovered David Silver Spares (https://www.davidsilverspares.com).

They have pretty decent prices on:
air filter (I assume HiFlo): https://www.davidsilverspares.com/RVF40 ... part_44594
rubber damped front sprocket: https://www.davidsilverspares.com/RVF40 ... part_19871

I need to ask about rear sprocket. Else I'll probably get a JT.

There are some oddities, their price for the dual rear wheel bearing (91061-ML0-731) is cheaper than I can get a generic not as good solution from my local bearing house but their price for the rear needle bearing (91062-MR7-003) is crazy but I can get this from my USA Honda dealer for $30 (it crosses to the NT650 and VFR).

Pair of 6004-2RS bearings for the front wheel is $16 from my local bearing supply house
I picked up a JTC525X1R114RL 114 link rivet masterlink chain, open box on eBay for $30 shipped.
4 pack of ER9EH spark plugs is $40 shipped off eBay
New set of tires, not decided yet. See how ancient the ones on the bike are when it arrives.

ask ArizonaRVF (on this forum) for what sprockets & chain he is running- fairly sure its a 520.

Also you have Graeme France - advice / bits / repairs (UK Based)

CMSNL in the Netherlands (for parts) & one of easiest websites to see your parts

Front wheel bearings are a common item.

Brake discs are common to dozens of other models like the VFR750 and CBR900RR.

Brake pads are easy to find for front and rear. Just look up the VFR400 part number and it cross references with other USDM bikes.

Go to a 520 sized chain (can fit a 160 tire!) and you can run Renthal 520 Sprockets. Front is from a 2013 CBR500R and rear is from a 2011-2012 CBR250R.

Clutch & brake levers and other hand controls are shared with tons of Honda bikes.

Ignition coils are used on another model but I can't remember which right now.

Certain electrical components, like the regulator rectifier (you'll need one) and starter relays are common among other models.

Clutch plates, both friction and steel plates are used on other bikes and come up with the same part number.

Pretty much any hardware, nuts & bolts etc.
